Prevent key stealing?

If I am in a Tengu doing exploration complexes, is there any way to prevent somebody in an interceptor from stealing the key off the Commander?

He can either go in with blasters, gank the commander and take the key, or wait for me to kill the commander, then use his superior mobility to take the key. Since I have no warp disruptors I cannot stop him from warping away.

What are my options (if any)?

You should fit a disruptor.

Really. Way honest.

If somebody is planning to poach a key out of a can in an interceptor they will have at least one, maybe two WCS fitted.

Man up and realise that it's just a game, and that the same site will respawn somewhere else. Competition is natural in EVE; wouldn't it be rather boring if it was just you in your ship the whole time, with nary another soul in the whole cluster? Blink

Have the keys with you already when you do these sites.

This is the correct way to do it. The keys are not consumed.

Good for those who have run the site before, or those willing to try and buy it off the market or contracts. Not so good for those on the first run or who do not want to "cheat" and buy it off the market.

About the only thing you can do is get in close and kill him and take the key before the other guy can.

If there are several NPC left in the pocket you can try the warp out an have him draw agro and let the NPC kill him, that works sometimes.

Kill the target and get the key while tanking the rest could work since the NPC sometimes switch agro to the newest ship in the site.

It's not "cheating" if it's freely available on the market. Just saying...

The keys don't cost that much, and sometimes people sell several different keys for different sites in what they term as exploration sets.

Don't run missions in trade or mission hubs. There's a whole big universe out there... find someplace away from the ones who like shitting on your carpet.

No offense meant, however a point is useless against an interceptor ...
... and considering your serious lack of knowledge and experience, you'll lose your tengu.

Wtf are you doing in a tengu anyway...

That ringing in your ears you're experiencing right now is the last gasping breathe of a dying inner ear as it got thoroughly PULVERISED by the point roaring over your head at supersonic speeds. - Tippia

There are players I have run into that would disagree with you on this and that is why I placed the word in quotes because THEY considered buying it "cheating". As with most things in this game there is no right or wrong from a game perspective only right or wrong from a personal perspective.

Why not fly a Tengu?
It is an excellent ship for the purpose he uses it for. That he was potentially poorly fit, and was using questionable tactics does not alter the worth of the ship, or it's worth for the intended purpose.

if another player lands on grid, if i think i can win a fight, i simply lock him and continue harvesting / fighting and get out quick when done.

(locking is not aggression, but allows me to shoot quickly if i desire.)
(i quit flying pve fits to do missions, just in case.)

People can say whatever they like. For example, I happen to call those websites that tell you exactly what to do and who to shoot in missions "cheat" sites; I really don't care what others think about that.

The simple fact is that if it's not an exploit and allowed in game mechanics, there's nothing "cheating" about it. Screw whoever says otherwise. ;-)
