Has anyone tested this theory out with a remote tracking module instead? Seems that would be far more useful to the Gecko's ability to surprise butt rush NPCs.

sounds like a nice and more lethal idea Twisted

And then I remembered how I was bashed in different chats for telling about managing aggro via Target Painting. Sure, it takes you actually actively locking enemies and switching targets when they go pop, but it also gives you quite some effective tracking (due to how it works, single TP on all 5 will give you bout 38.9% against frigates and 38.7% against cruiser rat for the Gecko). Still, this solution was meant for you-know-which-drone-hull, not battleships locking targets as fast as you grill chicken.

target painting is nice because it counts as aggression and will cause the NPCs to initially shoot at you. In the olden days this was great as npcs didn't know how to switch, more recently it seems like it mostly worked, although these days it doesn't seem to generate a whole lot of aggro.

I can tell you from experience that TP's don't work -- or at least they are too inconsistent to rely on protecting your drones. In fact, since Frostline, I've seen rats that would routinely prioritize a player over their drones now begin shooting at the drones first if drones are out instead. This includes cases that, according to how the current AI has been explained by CCP, shouldn't happen. Funny thing is, I can't remember the last time I lost a drone to an elite frig rat, but even rat battleships seem to randomly go after light drones. Which would all be fine if they didn't die in one-two hits.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I don't mind target switching as NPCs are far too easy anyways. What I can't stand is when BS sized rats insta-lock your light drones the second you launch them and they are half into structure before you even give them an attack command.

Just use some kind of realistic tracking/scan res/damage application please. Honestly a BS should never, ever be able to hit lights.

Yep, especially when the very same rats have seemingly a really hard time hitting the broadside of a 450m sig sized stationary battleship. I'm all for rats swapping targets, as long as it didn't seem like CCP turned them all into the perfect scout drone killers.

Your method does not work in the ded sites. I especially tested it ded 6/10 Blood raider, second room. The many BS still switch target to the drones every 10sec ( as they always have)

Entirely possible, as I only tested it in high-sec.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Null sites seems to have a different rulebook to anoms. I know that no aggro ever happens in havens which is about the only place I can say that.

WH are different again.
