Look, I'm playing a computer game for fun here. The need to grind can be part of the challenge and competition that makes this game fun to me - within limits. But I do have a life, and for that matter, a real job earning real money. I do not switch on EVE thinking "Yes, finally I get to slave my time away." Not that I'm saying that that is wrong if that happens to be your deal. You do whatever you want with your game time...

Late to the party as usual, but the same can be said about this character starting eve two years ago. I didn't worry about how far behind the curve I was compared to veteran players. I trained up high enough to ****-fit hero tackle, jumped in and had a blast whelping ships and stacking killmails while my core skills built up. I set a longterm goal to fly cloaky WH hunter type ships and learned the basic pvp mechanics as these trained in the background. I found great enjoyment in the low SP frigate pvp game, and each subsequent skill trained up was a bit more icing on the cake. I now fly a proteus or stratios when wormhole stalking, but when that gets boring i'll ****-fit a frigate and jump in a fleet for fun whelps. SP mean less than nothing for me, as I can have as much or more fun in a meta fit derptron as my bill and a half blinged out proteus. Its all in your head.

But more than that, though, you realise than nothing of what you then go on to say actually contradicts what I'm saying, right? Learning from failure is central to the process. You are always in charge of your own choices, so it's only ever there that the problem can really lie. And while there's nothing to say that new players must be protected, it doesn't really make much sense to give them more ways to screw themselves over, especially not in exchange for giving old players a mechanism to give them even more of an edge over those newbies.

I do realise that we largely agree. I am just pro skill packs. It might be a semantics thing, but I don't agree on the part where old players will be given that much of an even bigger edge. For me personally it will not change anything (I will perhaps finally overcome my mental blockade and get amarr bc to V with skill packs, so I can fly in that one strict CS doctrine, but apart from that it will be meh.). I can already fly almost everything what I want at at least level IV. I would not waste the sp you get passively anyway, so skillpacket IMO would probably mostly be used to get some skills to level 5, as that is where the waiting justifies the cost.

I just don't think the rate at which you aqcuire sp, is that important. You will get the player skill at the same rate IMO you will just have access to more. I don't see why it is bad that a newbie can sit in a ship with T2 guns faster for example. It does not change anything for the veteran, but might help the newbie getting the confidence to do stuff. Like you said yourself, the perceived gap hinders some newbies enjoying of the game (The gap might be perceived, but for them it is real). If a skilpack and some self deception will help them, I am all for it (Even if it is just a placebo).

No.

You get to do whatever you want ...
... as long as you can make sure you can do so.

No one gets to do what he wants unless others let him ...
... or he can make sure others don't stop him.

As you said yourself: for now you'll be happy with skill packs, 2 months down the line you'll start whining about some other stuff. It'll never end.

Well, that's the human condition. I'm sure that as I advance in the game I will learn to whine about other thing, like Fozzie SOV or the Mittani's latest imperial ambitions or whatever... Right now, all that is pretty meaningless to me. I do know though that every time I fire up EVE and look at the skill queue I think "heck, this is tedious". I don't get that from anything else in the game for now.

You know I missed this part when you first posted it, but it is rather telling as it shows you to be rather the special snowflake doesn't it. Me, me, me. That is how it is with you eh?

I have no doubt you will continue to whine because that is the nature of the incompetent and lazy. "Give me a break because."

I think we have found your problems, this is not the game for you. Go find a game you can grind on and play that. Grinding in Eve, if you insist on grinding, is usually for ISK. Of course you could look for ways to earn ISK without having to grind as well, but since you seem so enamored with it I'm guessing those methods will be beyond your ken.

I bought a great sports car for the driving enthusiast. Manual transmission and everything is adaptable like dampers, ride height, differential, stuff like that. But as it is a sports car it's always going to be on the sporty side so the ride is going to be firm whatever you do.

Then I decided that I don't like the firm ride because I use it for my daily commute, I'm really not interested in all the bells and whistles and, seriously, **** manual transmissions I want an auto. So I decided to send the manufacturer a letter where I complain about these obvious issues and that I just want to have a nice car to drive. I demand that they change my car from a sporty style into a more every day, easy going driver and replace the manual with an auto. And, oh yeah: I want it to be 4 door as well so they better change that.

Frankly I'm kinda surprised that they didn't sell me such a car in the first place even thought I personally made the choice of buying it, many brands have these cars so why not them? It's really just bad for business that they don't make every day cars for normal drivers because if they would change these sports cars into normal cars they'd sell a lot more!

I'm a very new player and I don't like the OP's idea. I decided to give Eve a try because of its difficult, complex, somewhat mysterious, nature . There are plenty of other MMO's that start players on a more even footing when it comes to pvp (Guildwars comes to mind immediately). Eve shouldn't be another one.

Lucky for you this game has a solution for you. Get out your wallet and buy a PLEX, sell it in game. Ta-da a reasonably fat wallet for a new player. Use some of that real money from your real job jackass. It is totally fine if you do.

Oh and the awesomeness of having SP based on real time....you gain SP while you are partaking in that real life you have. It is a good system for the...wait....wait...casual player.

ITT: people discovering that an MMO has character progression and gated content.

Next up: We ask just how seriously is the Pacific ocean contaminated with Dihydrogen Monoxide, and what is Obama going to do about it?

Did you know that your own government will REFUSE to confirm that ANY food or drink you buy is not tainted with this chemical?

It's also used in the production of agrotoxics and studies show that almost all oceans and larger lakes are saturated with it, it's a really big problem. Perhaps we should start a campaign to create awareness amongst the general public, this needs to be stopped!

Well we can do that once weve made everyone aware that low SP EVE characters played by new players can't do everything as well as high SP characters played by veteran players.

And by "made aware", I mean OUTRAGED.

Based on the 100% death rate of people that consume Dihydrogen Monoxide, whether intentionally or otherwise, I'd say it's pretty ******* lethal.
