Have you tried running your own little decompression algorithm on the shader?
Nebulae are mostly gradients...

Gentle color gradients are by far the hardest type of image to compress without visible artifacts.

Can I have a few of your super highres minmatar and amarr nebulae to experiment with? :D

That ringing in your ears you're experiencing right now is the last gasping breathe of a dying inner ear as it got thoroughly PULVERISED by the point roaring over your head at supersonic speeds. - Tippia

I know I'm super annoying with this, but why can't you crowdsource parts of the development ?

Textures seem to be a perfect test environment for that.

Shadercode optional.

Your shader code is a lot public knowledge anyway ...
... like the true imposters from gpu gems. :)

Can we at least talk about it ? :D

You know I just was playing for a while, and I'll admit the shading on the nebulas, really isn't bad. Yes, the darker areas around the edges are pixilated more, but it’s not horrible.

I think the change was “noticeable” which is why it really stood out initially and made it seem really bad; I’m sure some parts of space are worse than others, but all in all, it’s certainly acceptable. I know as time goes on the quality will continue to improve and change.

I just completed a bunch of jumps between Jita and Sasta while on business and the most dramatic areas affected were, as you said, the subtle gradients in the dark fringe areas of nebula backgrounds. I believe you said it earlier, but I’ll feel we can confirm it. The problems looks to be that, mention above.

"Zooming in" made the gradations more noticeable when viewing darker, gentle, clouded portions of space with lower contrasts, compared to the high depth ones full of gas features, lighting, and high levels of contrast.

Changes now are only minor. If/when new camera with fovchanges and other "goodies" goes live, things will likely be more apparent. Ofc that's if there weren't going to be improvements which CCP have said they are working on. Should try to withhold judgement until the new fixes come out on sisi.

We have some changes incoming that should reduce the worst of the compression artifacts. Will hopefully go live tomorrow.

is Anti-Aliasing Disabled?

I usually run with this on. Last update turned it off. Was noticeable (Suddenly, jagged bubbles)

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Nope.

Also thanks CCP Darwin and the others,
the nebulae look indeed much better now! :D

Nope - still looks extremely pixelated.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Sorry to burst your bubble but absolutely no discernible difference whatsoever in them reverting back to the previous quality prior the unintended change.

If you cared about the thread more than about how I bother you ...
... you wouldn't have posted to gain my attention.

You silly, bye bye :)

Get over yourself lol P
Looking through this again in retro I do indeed see a lot of attention seeking, it is both unnecessary and quite distracting yet persistent....

Yes it looks slightly better.

But If you people would like to see a really good graphics, you can always watch the sky outside the computer.

Not sure if my computer will run it...

Perhaps I upgrade some day.
