You all are saying it wrong. There is only one name, "papa", since that's how its discoverers called it. Spanish speaking people are given anllowance to call it "patata" so they can take pictures with expressive faces.

We also do not know for sure what the first name for potato/aardappel/papa was.

According to Wikipedia the plant was domesticated 7000-10.000 years ago. The name Papa comes from a language family that is old, but not quite that old.
