Its been ages since I have heard some of the corp names I have read about here. I started the day it was released on my own account a friend got me interested by letting me play on his Beta account briefly just to let me get a feel for it. When I had my first account ... it was difficult to choose a race but I went Gallente cause of the bonuses it appeared to have then to research and mining. A few days later I made a Minmatar and have been on her almost ever since she is my mina combat pilot. I have watched the S4 Pilots burn down armadas seen the creation of BoB and its fall by Goon. but nothing made me happier than when I realised my Gallente pilot had everything necessary to do any research in this game and thus I now play both heavily.

My Gall runs the research department for my corp my Matari runs the fleet and most of the misison ops now and this toon was only made to create a home for both. I trained this one to be the CEO and she runs things from the background but most of the work is done on my Gall and my main Matari.

It is funny to sit here and remember all the days in NORAD alliance fighting pirates just to haul a piece of rock the few days we held out against BoB was a glorious few days but in the end we had not the numbers or resources to beat them. I remember being a merc in the Curse wars and flying down in the badlands against RKO. Tis been a long long journey to these days but every ounce of it has been a fight and a pleasure some of you may know me on my main and I am sure at some point we have all met some where in the verse.

I salute you all for being steadfast in your days here in Eve for tis a wonderful place with many riches and many more wonders to be explored. There is no greater enjoyment than to read all these recappings of days gone by and remembering those moments when in the heat of battle we realise how much fun this verse is and that we can do it all again and again.

Empires rise and empires fall but we are the constant in the night for we are the pod pilots who bring to life this very verse in which we live.

P.S I don't discuss my actual first character before my Gallentean she was a horrible mess of I had no clue of what I was doing when I made her. THe things I learned in a 1 month period gave way to the creation of much better toons in those days and she has long long since been deleted and recreated.

Leviathans was my first corp in NORAD, then we formed our own called Hellfire-Empire those were the days before BoB. We skirmished with some of the S4 pilots from time to time but most dealt with pirates after NORAD fell I returned to high sec and wandered a time joining various corp's playing at Merc one group in particulr Talon's Grip was a fun bunch of gentleman whom I will never forget. My alts were in various corp's then I was trying to find a home when I began aquiring my first BPO's thats when I decided I need to make my own corp 4 years into eve by then and I had found my permanent home, well home corp at least.

I am not the best at telling stories but my fondest memroy and funniest I think is the day I got into a high sec fight and forgot that I had an agreesion timer and undocked to pick up ore from my mining team on my alt and she got blown up right outside station. The funny part is I accidently shot one of my own corp members cause he decided to be a funny boy and attack the mining op as a "drill for the mining team's defense" this mind was well before that whole system was in place. I doubt he will ever forget the look on my face let alone will I ever forget it an expensive loss at the time but now they are cheap especially since I can make them myself.

I remember when our biggest gripe was the HUD, OMG that was the biggest pain in the ass trying to select a single ship in the middle of combat just to shoot it first but never quite getting that one clicked or how about when we used to be able to shoot people beyond 300km with the perfect sniping setup before it was nerfed.

So many memories. Tis a pleasure to have flown with you all and twould be a pleasure to fly with you for a lot longer, whether we have in game or not those of you who have been here since the beginning know what I mean and for those who come after may you enjoy just as we have for this is a truely remarkable place to be.

P.S. I don't want to remember my first toon but I will give a brief recount of her here. She is deleted and gone after a little more than a month I created my Gallentean whom I consider my true first toon. but my actual first toon was a matari and cause I did not know anything about what for in the game how the creation of the char went or that the attributes would be determined by your selections at creation she turned out horrible. after nearly a month and a half almost 2 months I made my new toon geared straight out for mining and manufacture to mild delight she was also tailored for research and invention. Then came the wars and she was woefully underskilled for combat so I made my second toon and went right into combat with her from day one until now.

Those were the days when not ever toon was the same when it mattered your choices at creation as to what your character was good at when a simple career choice began a long life history of adventure and joy pain and sorrow. I do not regret a single choice and I would do it all the same if I had to because this is Eve and it has been but an adventure from day one. Thus my very first toon in my eyes never truely existed because I learned so much in a little under two months.

I felt obligated to tell something but then I realized that, after biomassing 50+ chars I hardly remember what's the deal was with any of them. It's more like some separated stories to which I can call main character as "me" or "some guy/protagonist".
Guess I have to actually write things down sometimes.

When I did some fanfiction about a corp I used to be in (along with the people in it)... I made people with multiple alts / characters seem like they had some kind of split personality disorder. Lol

Main Character: "Well, let's see here... checking mail... OH! A mail from my nemesis!!"
*opens mail*
Alt Character wrote:
"I hear ya helping out nubbins! Guess you couldn't hack it being a REAL player! Smell ya later!!"

Main Character: *pounds fist on table* "DAMN (alt character)!!! *starts typing* Dear... buttface... yeah, I am training nubbins... like I trained your sister!!! She was really... talented. Blink Buahahaha!" *hits send* Twisted

*(main character's name) suddenly convulses*
*he shakes his head and looks at the computer with new eyes*

Alt Character: "Ooooo... I have mail... let's see here... WHAT??? *pounds fist in table* DAMN (main character's name)!!!" Evil
*(alt character) proceeds to declare war on (main character)*

I started out as a child. Grew up in the streets of Philadelphia playing street football. And we played it right there on the street.

I spent months mining in a Nereus because there were no mining frigates back then. When I finally saved up enough for my first Procurer I was so thrilled! I got a similar thrill when I trained into and bought my first catalyst. I was like, "Now, no one will think I'm a noob!"

After quitting in frustration and coming back a few times, I joined a good corp. Then I realized that corp life was where the real fun was. I fly solo alot nowadays, but I recommend every new player join a corp. They'll teach you what you need to know and reduce your frustration.

Uhm, before the venture rolled out, all 4 faction had their own mining frigate (the now logi frigates). So why did you use the Nereus.

P.s. I made the same mistake, mining in a Badger Mk II with a single mining laser, ooh that was boring as hell

I started with the Navitas, but switched to the Nereus so I could AFK mine longer. :-)

I got away with mad afk mining for years before I started getting ganked.

This is a question I have received more than a few times and have been quite happy to answer for a number of reasons. Many newbies simply get lost and/or bogged down in all the "noise" of EVE... taking what they have done so far or what they have experienced... their dashed hopes and failures... personally. However they shouldn't.
Good and bad things have happened to everyone in EVE, even to us veterans. We all have stories to tell... some we are ashamed of... others that we look back on fondly because they were pivotal moments for us.
I invite other veterans to share the stories of their beginnings so the newbies that come to this forum can see that they are not alone... that their tribulations are not unique... that they can get through even the worst of things and become like us (sorta).
I started EvE as a miner/mission runner/carebear back in 2009.
After I finishing the tutorials I went and did the Epic Arc for the Sisters of EvE. I muddled my way through some of the missions (muddled = experimented to see what LIVED) in my Velator... then a Tristan (before it became a "good" ship)... and then a Catalyst. I even trained up to use an Iteron IV (old industrial ship that has been "phased out") which helped me move from location to location easily (ah, the nomadic life... never again).
Then I ran into a mission that mopped the floor with my ships (all of them). I went back to square one;
I trained up some mining skills, set up my Iteron to mine, went to an asteroid belt, and began to mine. And mine. And mine. Only later did I learn that this was a horribly inefficient way to do this... but it worked for my purposes at the time.
While I was mining I perused through the market to see what ships were available, what mods I could use for what... and lurked in the NPC corp chat... gathering whatever information I could use.
I used the ore I mined to buy a Thorax and set it up... and boy, did I set it up... shield AND armor reppers, small and medium guns... I felt I could take on the world! Five minutes after undocking it was a big ball of flames. It didn't hit anything! It just SAT there while NPCs danced around me! I was MAD. Evil
So I went back to mining. Bought another Thorax. Found a "professional fit" on a website. And I spared no expense letting my OCD go crazy with it. All of the same guns (cruiser sized railguns this time), 2 armor reppers, MWD, etc. I went back and completed the damned mission... though I had to warp out a few times and return because of capacitor issues and damage.
Around this time I was convo'ed by a random person. This person asked me if I wanted to join a corp. Figuring that it wouldn't hurt to try, I accepted. Turns out I was lucky. The corp had been set up by some "bitter veterans" who wanted to try and manage a rookie corp for giggles. I asked questions. Many questions. Over and over again. Until they told me to **** off. Through them I learned how to [more or less] set up my ships and focus my character for PvE. I got a Vexor, skilled myself up properly (sorta), set it up the way they described, and then knocked down the remaining missions with ease.
I moved out to their HQ systems (I use the plural term as the corp was in its infancy and the "leaders" were still trying to get a handle on all of the logistics).
We got into a war dec or two... I died several times due to some very stupid things I did... like warping into a group of super fast Tech 2 Heavy Assault Ships with an heavy-ass Battlecruiser. Shocked Or jumping into a gatecamp while doing missions.
Eventually I settled on mostly running missions and continued to ask questions (i.e. "What fit can I run missions with in a Hyperion?" and "How can I help?").
The corp moved again and I continued to "dabble" in this or that skillwise. After I was able to fly and fit a Tech 1 Mining Barge I realized that I just HATED mining... with a passion... and that while running missions was equally monotonous, they were still FAR more interesting as I could use my imagination and roleplay with the rats (something along the lines of, "HAHAHA, I keeling all u dirwy, diwty piwates!")
Around this time the corp began to dissolve because of internal issues (we won't get into that) and I had to pick sides. I chose to stay with the "Vets" as I figured that they "knew what they were doing" (hahaha) and that whatever venture they went into I could draw from their knowledge and better myself. Plus, they were pretty chill guys and I liked their banter... even though most of it was directed at me.
We went around from place to place... declaring war against various industrial corporations... knocking over POSs (Player Owned Starbases) at moons for profit... ransoming corporations that put no effort into defending themselves (for a "reasonable price")... etc. But I hungered for more.
Soon I found myself in Faction Warfare with these "Vets" and discovered that my skillset for dealing with straight, focused combat (both character-wise and player-wise) to be woefully inadequate. As a result I died. A lot.
But even still, I found such... pleasure... in going out with and killing other like-minded players with no obligations to anything.
I focused my combat and core skills, stuck around despite the abrasive nature of my peers... and now here I am years later; the director of a decent PvP corporation.
I am no longer afraid of grabbing a frigate and heading into hostile systems. I am more than happy to take out something stupid expensive to defend a friend in trouble. I have a firm grasp of how to fit ships and see what tactics will be used against me as soon as I arrive on field (or sometimes before that!)
I did all this! And so can you!
So my advice to you newbies? FIND A CORP AND MAKE FRIENDS. Doing so will take you places.

This is my experience but I'm not a bittervet yet I guess thats why snuff hasnt recruited me.

My first experience was coming out of the station and thinking this is a top of the line environment. That was back in in 2007. I watched the ships coming and going and watched local chat taking it all in. I had a heart dropping feeling that was good because of the excitement. Then I targeted the closest ship in my Velator and opened fire.

I was insta-popped and then was in the station. Not knowing what had happened I left the station again and again and again and continued to get popped.

I then asked in local what I was doing wrong. After the reply I never attacked CONCORD again.

The real excitement came later in 1997 when those who know to whom I am referring about know exactly what I am talking about. The loss wasn't due to a card game either.

As a new player i was attratcted to the game mechanics and the genre but... since 2003? And training is in real time? Are you serious there are people been paying a monthly sub since 2003? They deserve respect and loyalty.

They invested a lot of money but what about new players? How could anyone feel like they were having fun when they look around and see so much Elitism ... there is no hope of ever being anything but a subscription?

Great talk of how much fun it is but really? Why don't you speed up training and re-set the game every six months? Since 2003? zomg!!!

Speed up training so that the best players reach the Pinnacle of Success in like one year and then reset. You got to be kidding if you think ill subscribe to a hopeless future.

Hahaha, obvious clueless player here.

It shows you know nothing about how skills actually work.

Come talk to me and I will try to explain

p.s.

I once killed a player that played 6 year longer than I did. So for some reaons your whole argument just fell down like a house of cards.

My second year in EVE completed over the weekend. You can read about my first year as posted earlier in this thread:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=5551816#post5551816

Some things have changed a lot for me, yet many things are the same.

Corp - still in my starter corp, CAS.

Playstyle - still small gang PvP in NPC null.

ISK made - I don't know, I now have enough wealth to not think about it day to day. Maybe 25 billion over these past two years?

Ships lost - 7.82 billion ISK, 273 ships (previously 2.79 billion ISK, 149 ships - I've lost about the same number of ships each year, but the ones I've been losing the second year are more than twice as expensive on average.)

Ships destroyed - 203.38 billion ISK, 1655 ships (previously 106.13 billion ISK, 833 ships - pretty much the same rate as the first year.)

Solo kills - Ten! Half came from a solo excursion to Cloud Ring where GSF/FCON derped Interceptors at my Algos one-by-one. Another notable one for me was 1v2 against Elo Knight in a Sacrilege and some other character (perhaps an alt of his?) in a Confessor. I took out the Confessor just before dying. \o/ But I'm still not a good 1v1 pilot and am fearful of undocking alone.

Income source - I quickly got tired of the L4 missions I mentioned after the first year, so once I had a few billion in liquid I switched to station trading which suits my temperment much better. If I focus on it I can make 1 billion ISK per week.

Skillpoints - 43 million, previously 19 million. I'm still purely sub-cap, and have been focusing on various T2 bits as I mostly have all the core skills to V that I need. I have used a few injectors, yes.

One of the biggest changes in my second year is how I participate in small gang PvP. I've started FCing more regularly As I said before, it's exciting and stressful and depressing and the ultimate rush all rolled in one. I started by taking a single small fleet out, composed of people I enjoyed flying with, trying to emulate effective FCing I've witnessed. I've more recently had the opportunity to FC during the CAS Combat Day a few times now, with 100+ pilots looking to me for coordination. It's incredibly daunting, a real blow to the ego when things go wrong, but richly rewarding when people give praise and thanks. I've also tried be be an ad-hoc FC in response to unanticipated events, which is much more difficult than with an already organized fleet. It's something I haven't really figured out yet. But I'm still quite happy to be a regular line member in a fleet, like the bait Vexor or the hero tackle frig.

I'm still learning some of the nuances of EVE, like how to read when a hostile frig is AB/scam fitted, and what are some situations where subterfuge can be used. The changes to the game, like the introduction of command destroyers, keeps things fresh and interesting.

Advice to newbies - This hasn't changed at all. EVE is about playing with and against, and learning from, other people. You don't have to join a player corp to do this, as CAS and the various NPSI groups show, but if you get in with the right group of people by whatever means you can find yourself doing things you never thought possible.

(And I still keep DotLan printouts next to my keyboard.)

I've started and quit more times than I can remember, but always with the same account(s). This was way back, probably 10 years ago, maybe a little more. I had seen an ad for the game, and thought what the hell, a free trial, I will check it out.

So I downloaded the trial, created my first character, a Caldari that I named after a certain green puppet, and logged in to check it out and play maybe an hour.

Several hours later, I finally managed to make myself stop. And I was hooked. Joined a couple of crappy corps trying to find my place, then decided to focus on mining and move into production.

Then decided to try piracy.

Dak Hakin was born. I quickly learned that I didn't know what the heck I was doing fighting, but I joined a corp because I liked the name of the CEO (Biggus Tankus, as I recall). And became a freedom fighter.

I've dabbled into a lot in Eve, and have recently come back with more focus.

I wish I had more details, but the memory is a bit fuzzy, and its been a while.

I started way back in 04, due to a few friends i had played Star Wars Galaxies with talked me into giving eve a try.
The first day i had no freaking clue what the heck i was doing, and spent the day mining in a ibis so i could afford a new ship (never again i tell you, never ever again).

After a week ingame, and with a bunch of skills trained to level 1, i was told to get into a merlin and get my ass to 0,0 where i was part of what was then a major war between Curse Alliance and Stain Empire. Played there for a while before i desided to give a ton of other mmo's a shot.
Came back after a few months to find that half the corp i had been in had started their own corp in high sec, and i joined them and we were having a great time doing missions (torpedo caracal 4tw), and some roams into 0,0 to do pvp.
After a while of playing, and skilling up, i started reading, and posting on the forums quite a bit, and i got to know a few pirates in a corp called Teddybears, who were quite famous back then, but since the corp i was in didnt allow piracy, i didnt think much about it.

However, after a while our CEO had to go away for a while due to rl issues, and at the same time someone made a pirate movie called Yarrzor or something along those lines, where he was flying a thorax with 8 heavy drones and small blasters, and i was hooked... I went straight to Yulai which was the tradehub back then and bought one and set destination for low sec.
First system i jump into and i find a mining barge in a belt, which i quickly killed before wandering down the old low sec pipe between caldari and gallente space. On the route i found more barges and mining cruisers to kill, and even a few apocs mining.
So there i was, for the most part solo, pirating every chance i get, and then my CEO came back and i quickly talked him into moving into Coveryn, which was the system i was basing out of at the time. Also back then, Verone (who is now a dev) was pirating out of that system, and i talked quite a bit with him, picked up some tricks to improve my skills etc.

On the sell forums i found someone who was building ships, and I along with my CEO, who was now more of just one of the guys made a deal with him that if he deliverd ships to low sec, we would secure the gates so that we wouldnt have to create alts just to move ships down to us.

We flew in that region for over a year, just doing solo and small gang stuff and had a great time, but after a while RL again caught up with him, and he left the game. I figured i should give 0,0 a try again and one of the guys that had previously been in the corp had joined a corp called 4S, which had just formed an alliance a few days earlier to take some sov in Geminate just to be a pain in the ass. I quickly joined them (i think this was now in 06), and on my first day there, i bought a megathron and was tossed straight into a fight against what was then a massive dread fleet of 6 dreads Shocked. We killed 3 dreads and the rest of them jumped out and we took the system.

We fought for a while in 0,0 but again my eager to do piracy managed to drag me back to low sec. So thats where i went, found that a lot of the ppl that had been in the Teddybears corp i had always looked up to had formed a new corp after teddybears had been disbanded, and i joined them and had the time of my life until that corp closed down due to inactivity.

GM Guard > I must ask you not to use the petition option like this again but i personally would finish the chicken sandwich first so it won´t go to waste. The spaghetti will keep and you can use it the next time you get hungry. Best regards.

It is all blurry to me as I joined 11 years ago...
A friend introduced me to Eve as he knew I was busy and would benefit from something that didnĀ“t require me to grind for higher levels. So I joined and had to learn the hard way back then. I was all over the place trying pvp, pve, trading, hauling and mining.

As I said it is all blurry...

My friend and myself founded Chaos Guardian as he was veteran compare to me and I had real life experience in leadership.
Eventually I had to take a break and he stopped playing too. This was back in 2005.

When I came back in 2006 I wanted to get better in Mining and skill up for Mammoth so I joined Regal Industries.

I had to take another break so I tried myself in production a bit so I joined Robotics Development in 2007.

Then in 2010 I joined High house of Shadow and a lot happen there so I went into hiding in 2011. I started doing hauling and smuggling illegal goods. My last haul was worth several billion ISK and I was hauling it on auto pilot at the time as I had to make food or tea. I heard a few gunshots while I was upstairs and when I realized what was going down, I ran down to save myself but when I reached the keyboard my ship exploded.

A few seconds later I rage quit and unsubscribed back in 2011.

5 years later, I came back. I am now with Realm and we come from a game community, and currently building up several corps for the future. I am doing trading and mining, as I have since then reached high level of trading and mining skills, and balancing both in preparation for upcoming Mining updates later this year.

I also get hired to do station trading as broker for other in exchange for profit share, so other can focus on what they want while still gaining enough ISK.

That is all I remember...

I've been in and out of eve for the last twelve years.

My first character was a caldari railgunner back in '04. My first taste of PvP was getting my moa damn near instapopped by a nanophoon back when modules didn't have stacking penalties and the split weapon system was less a drawback as energy vampires worked regardless of cap levels, so it orbited me at something like 5km/sec chucking torps.

This toon was born just a little over ten years ago.

Four months into eve on this character, I fitted a harbinger and headed to deep stain to see how long I could remain undocked, ratting. On my way out of Providence I hit my first gate camp in 0.0, two rifters, an enyo, a taranis, a stiletto, a crow, and a flycatcher.
The flycatcher had already launched its sphere. I started my burn toward a celestial, and started locking everything on grid, set my NOS, web, and guns to fire on the fist thing I locked, figuring it would be a MWDing frigate at low transversal. The stiletto hit my web and took 2-3 volleys and exploded. Between running two medium energy vamps and a web I was able to cap out and destroy the rifters and the flycatcher, the enyo and crow realized I didn't have a point and warped off. My hands were shaking, but I survived what I considered to be my first real PvP encounter in eve, and even got "holy s.... gf" in local.

I slowly worked my way into Stain, always warping to celestials from gates, building up bookmarks of "safe" spots that weren't in between any two objects, creating warp to zero bookmarks for all the stargates. Back then there wasn't any PC sov in Stain, so I managed to stay out there undocked for six months, dodging gangs, ratting and building up a bankroll. My voyage was finally ended by a gang consisting of two vagabonds and a huginn. I let them pod me since I didn't have any implants and it seemed the quickest way back to highsec.

My Stain expidition netted me enough profit to replace my harbinger, and buy a 'geddon as well. I also wanted to start doing more gang work, so I bought 20 malediction hulls for the amazing price of 40 million isk, and started training to fly inties, with the goal of flying a vagabond.

I spent most of my time running missions to gain standing with every l3 and l4 locator agent I possibly could (as like other, non-miner pilots, I entertained fantasies of becoming a feared bounty hunter). About this time, I saw an ad from a pilot named Alekseyev Karrde, looking for pilots for a mercenary corporation called Noir. that he had just formed. I thought it sounded like fun, so I messaged him about joining and was accepted. Before I headed out to where they were based I ran every active war target through my locator agents, and took a malediction out on a recon patrol. I got lucky and came across a war target in an atron that was set up for fast travel. I had a sebo and a 24 km point, caught him on gate decloak, popped his frigate and got his pod as well. At the time, loot rules meant the cargo was mine, and that is how I got my first gistii afterburners and MWDs. I installed one of the MWDs in one of my maledictions, has kept the 2 mil hull alive almost ten years.
I think I was member #5, but it seemed like the typical gang consisted of my malediction and Aleks' nemesis. Noir. joined with Trinity Nova to take on larger contracts.

I took a break while a new girlfriend kept me busy, but news that BoB was disbanded piqued my curiosity, so I re-subbed, loaded some mobile warp disruptors and a cargo hold full of ammo into my vagabond, and headed down to Providence, set up catch bubbles in 2-3 gate systems, and attacked as many fleeing industrials that I safely could.
I started talking with the guys from Noir. again, and found out they were on contract in Providence and Domain, intercepting shipping fleeing the turmoil, basically freebooting same as me. I re-joined Noir.
At the time, a lot of freighter pilots would logoff when threatened. One of our covops pilots had the great idea of scanning out the freighter during the window it was still in space, and tagging it with a smart bomb to put the 15 min aggression timer on it. After a bit of tracking, we found ourselves a logoffski freighter, our covops pilot did his job and tagged the freighter, than gang warped us in to destroy it. The pilot was surprised to find himself in a pod rather than a freighter when he logged back in, and proceeded to offer to buy back the fully researched POS module blueprints that were in his wreck. Our FC said he could bid against everyone else in Jita if he really wanted it. It isn't huge, but I feel accomplished for being on what was the first logoffski freighter kill.

When I realized my character was turning ten, I re-subbed to see what has being going on. Right now I'm trying to figure out if I want to join a nullsec or w-space alliance. Maybe Ill try out the SoE arc while I'm deciding, since this thread is the first time I've ever heard about it.

I've been around for almost three years now, I am not by any means a veteran. But I feel as if I have enough of a story to share with some helpful advice.

But I started out originally in 2011 with is toon. The Corp wasn't great. I think I got picked up in a rookie system. If you look at the link you can maybe devise that I not single idea what I was doing. Losing a rather embarrassingly fit Caracal to a Interceptor, and somehow lost a Cormorant to a Jag. The corp wasn't a very great place for newbies like I was. Filled nary a person who wanted to help or teach.

The CEO's main idea of helping was just filling a corporate hanger fill of T1 mods and ammo and telling corp to have at it. He was only online more maybe an hour and kept, much like everyone else in corp, to himself. To himself, unless it was recruiting. I don't remember how many people where in the corp, I remember it having a slight tax to it. So maybe I got dragged into a Tax Farm corp. But however nothing really comes from memory.

I left the corp, and made my own after about a week or so. I think it was mainly due to a Wardec, (The one which I lost the Cara) But me and another fellow, Psimon, I think was his name. Decided that we would try it on our own. But at that point. I was completely lost. With no one to guide or show me how the game was suppose to work, or even the mechanics on how it worked. I fell into the dreaded cycle of AFK-Mining.

I wasn't around for long. And unsubbed my account only playing for about two months.

Two years later in 2013, my brother told me that he and a mutual IRL friend had gotten back into EVE. He invited me to join and I did. However unable to remember anything but the username for my old 2011 account. I created this one instead. Which in reality probably was a better idea as I have no idea how the skills looked on the old character and it was probably all kinds of FUBAR.

Now. It started out the same as before. Making isk for a few months, letting skills train. But this time, I had something that I didn't in my previous run of EVE.

We had recruited an older player, His name was Savnire Jacitu. He was a 2011 player, seemed to be friendly. He had the deepest man voice I probably ever heard before. The whole point of him join our little band of newbies was to help us out and teach us the ropes. However,

He was actually an AWOX'er. An AWOX'er, is a player whose whole purpose, is to nonchalantly join your corp, then proceed to murder everyone possible inside that corp. Back then Corp were all ways set that you could aggress incorp members without CONCORD intervention.

And I'm sure your probably expecting that my first real victory in EVE was ending that AWOXing scum. Or he killed as all and our first lesson from him was how harsh EVE was back then.

And actually. No. He actually didn't. I'm sure his whole intention was merc us like, (As a simple but then unknown to me, Killboard check would've told us) he's done to several other corps before hand. He actually somehow grew to like us. He showed us the ropes took us out to Lowsec (Where we got ruthlessly Murdered btw), but he told us how to fit ships properly. How to fly, what was important to keep in mind during fights and even helped out with a mission or to in what I thought at the time was a very expensive Abandon.

Fast forward a week.

Savnire was to try out the Wardec mechanic with us. Figures that it's probably a good way to our feet wet with PVP. We decced a small indy corp that had a decent membership. And we actually won. Surprisingly. I lost a Gnosis (Which is a really good ship for both newbies and vet's I would definitely try it out) but traded with a drake. Killed another dudes drake. And basically won the isk war, and our own objective war.

Along the way, We got destroyed by BAW, a very strong Mercenary Alliance, And Failed Diplo, And Forsaken, And Sov Inf, And Pod Repo. But it didn't really matter we were having fun. At least I was. I was never that unlucky with the Mercenaries. My brother, lost Loki's like it was a curse. Which is it's own story for another day I suppose.

We had a name change to Abysmal Gentleman. Made a bit of a name for ourselves. Even got some guy to start a 50 page or so threadnought because of a members actions. That was neat. But for the most part we kept small. But we picked up a few other members. Two, Ethan and Grahem, From a corp we wardecced. They are awesome people. We even killed Grahams Vargur! And if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have my amazing and very Scottish friend yelling at me every week.

We picked another lifer when we eventually tried to make an alliance.

It...eh. Well we AWOX'ed the Alliance CEO in a Wormhole and left him in it without an exit to the hole.

So needless to say, the alliance thing didn't work out really in any ones favor. Full story here if you want to give it a read ANYWAYS. It didn't work out and he was bit of a nozzle.

But one of his corp mates, Irish, he was kinda pushed around in the corp and LEFT WITH US!

And we've been flying together for 3 years now. Honestly we've had our bumps and snaps. But I love them all as brothers. Expect for my brother, (F that guy)

Anyways, moral of my story?

Don't settle for a corp, find a corp that has people you get along with. Don't sit ideally in a quite corp chat. Find some place where people are healthy and willing to help you out. Because that sorta corp will make stick to this game like it's a drug.

Also don't let in-game losses become real life scars. My CEO once planned to murder me. My Scottish and Texas friend both were murdered BY me and my corp. My Irish friend helped us murder our alliance CEO! My best friends, happened because of this.

To further my point as I ran out of characters.

I've never been in Abysmal Gentlemen 100% of the time. I left and I was in several other mercenary corps. Deadly Fingertips, Absolute Defiance, Pursuit, and a few others.

They do not hold memories like Abysmal does for me. I honestly don't get along to well with others. I'm easily annoyed, passive aggressive, snarky and a little temperamental. If there are people around me I don't want to be around. I don't enjoy myself and it doesn't take a whole lot to annoy me. When you get into large corps and alliance the chance of finding somebody you don't like obviously increases. I could go on forever about some of the people I've met. But that isn't really the point.

I know that I enjoy this game, I like working in small groups and in specialized fleet comps, mowing down an enemy fleet. Only because I know my own fleet members like brothers. I like knowing that my friends know me, and will try to help me if I need it. I like that they are understanding of me and don't freak out on me if I become frustrated. (Mostly)

But I also know I hate playing this game if I have some overly zealous guy screaming point on a thorax and then screaming for webs when he get shot at by said thorax. Even though he's in a Loki.

Basically, Don't stick to a place if something is bothering you. Find somewhere where you belong. Where you enjoy. Don't get into a place where all you think about is how nice it would be to shove a heavy neutron blaster up the tail pipe of your friendly but annoying corp mate.

And to further my other point. Like I said before. Three of my best friends here in EVE all were apart of some form of conflict. They didn't let it get to them. They didn't care they lost a Vargur. They didn't care that we killed his friend. I didn't care that my CEO fully planned on killing me.

A Loss is in EVE is paltry. And shouldn't scar you as much as some people let it. A ship. Even if it's over a billion in isk. is just a ship. EVE isn't based around ships. It's based around the players. Keep that in mind as you go into the game.
