Mining - Ore Categories

This here is a little quality of life improvement...

When people mine, they're usually out looking for a specific ore. Either the one that pass the best, or the one that has the mineral they need to finish building something.

The thing that bugs me though is that all 3 of the variations for any one ore also have 3 separate categories in the overview.

What I'm proposing is that the variations for any one ore should all share a category to make for easier sorting. This way you end up with

Veldspar - Veldspar
Concentrated Veldspar - Veldspar
Dense Veldspar - Veldspar

instead of:

Veldspar - Veldspar
Concentrated Veldspar - Concentrated Veldspar
Dense Veldspar - Dense Veldspar

As it is right now if I try to sort my overview by type I end up with Condensed Scordite and Concentrated Veldspar together (since it's sorting alphabetically), and then normal Veldspar way at the at the bottom with all manner of other ores in between.

As it is right now the 'Type ' of an asteroid is useless and redundant info to have on the overview.

I agree, and I would also lump Banidine with Veldspar, Geodite with Crokite, etc. This way the category matches the type of mining crystal you use for it.

Maybe expand the overview options so you can filter them just liek anything else.
Instead of having it as just "Asteroids" break it down into Veldspat, Scordite etc so you can untick the ones you do not want and they will just not show up in the overview.

Or, you could take half a second, while looking at the chart that tells you either the payout for the mins or the mineral composition of the ore, to look at the ore you're mining to find which are the +5% and +10%s. After you look at that a few times, you'll learn which is which, and know to go for those first.

Also, you can adjust your overview settings. Each asteroid type, ie veldspar and hedbergite, is a seperate entry in the overview settings, allowing you to tailor your overview to only display the ore types you're mining.

I am already aware of this and it doesn't alleviate the fact that sorting by type in the overview doesn't group the 3 variations of an ore together because all 3 have their own "Type" and get sorted alphabetically away from each other.

Right now what I've been doing is making overview profiles that show nothing but the specific ore I want because trying to sort it out of a generic mining profile doesn't work.

Let's take Omber for instance. Omber, SIlvery Omber, Golden Omber. That's an O, S, and G. If you use a generic mining profile there will be a lot of other ores in the middle to mess up the grouping.

So the real problem seems to be that you have to make a choice between convient and efficient.

This is not a problem.

You can have 5 overview tabs. It's not difficult to setup some overview presets to display single ore types and dedicate a tab to mining. It's also a simlke matter of 2 clicks of the mouse to change the preset of a tab.

The real problem is that this category never existed to begin with. Its additional complexity that adds nothing to the game. Adding the parent category for the ore type family makes multiple different processes less cumbersome. There isn't really and good reason to keep it the old way, other than an attachment to the existing formats.

Instead of [special] [Mineral], call it [Mineral] - [Special].
So instead of Concentrated Veldspar, you get Veldspar - Concentrated, so it sorts alphabetically and by mineral family.

99.9% of QoL suggestions are nothing more than the suggester refusing to use the established tools, usually because they're too lazy to do the proper setup for those tools. Your idea is not in the 0.1%

Setup overview settings for your mining. Include all ships, the rats if you want, and one ore type. Save this setup and name it the ore type you're displaying, change displayed ore type to next on the list, save, repeat until done. This takes about 3 minutes and only needs to be done once.

Now, name one of the tabs on your overview "Mining," if you don't already have one, and load up the preset you made for the ore type you want to mine. Sort the overview by type, and voila, you now have an overview that displays the ores you want to mine, nicely sorted by quality, and only seperated by stuff that could actually harm you. You can even remove other mining ships from your presets, so that you only ever see combat ships that warp on grid.

Your idea is not QoL, it is "I don't want to take the time to do it right, so do it for me."

Survey scanner nicely groups the 0, 5% and 10% into seperate groups .. one of the 2 reasons to use it .. if u wanna fit sb instead of the scanner .. then perhaps u need to learn to live with it .. + the icon sizes in overview point out to the % of the roids. not so hard to get used to useing the tools u allready have ..

yes it would be easyer if sorting groups the ores as the OP pointed but this activity is easy enuf allready ..

They do have different icons now on the overview too. So the "bigger" +10% has the biggest icon and the +5% a smaller one and the regular one a small bubble (noo not that one, even smaller).

this - combined with having a base mining overview that you then add individual ores to.
mining - base
mining - veld (shows conc and dense too)
mining - omber (shows silver and golden)

I've never done mining missions, but it probably shows the shite ores like banidine etc...

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it [u]WILL[/u] be.

You have a strange dislike for QoL changes, especially anything to do with ore.

And, like it has been said, there is no format. The format is what is being asked for. Would you like to see guns no longer seprated by size? Or ships no longer grouped by type?

Not needed when you can setup an entire series of tab settings to do the job better.
