I thought I would do a little follow up... We had a bit of a fuss at a WH today. It was a complete stalemate and while nobody exploded there was a lot of damage going around... lol...

Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen seem to have based a big part of their marketing around their oh-so-amazing graphics. But if you put EVE up against both those games, I think Eve looks just as good, if not better, both technically and aesthetically.

Plus you get a game that you can actually play and has enormous depth and challenges at all levels.

In terms of ship and environment design, EVE wins.

In terms of graphical effects, it doesn't have very much room to flex. It's making a good effort at keeping up for a game thats existed more than a decade now, but its definitely not the top of the food chain.

Still it could be much worse and they are making all the right moves, perhaps not at the speed we would prefer.

Thanks so much for the kind words! The team really appreciates the pat on the back.

I'm just glad we finally get a new art feature in EVE that even the most bitter of the bittervets can't complain about.

I know you guys have to be used to that by now, but it still grinds my nerves whenever the first question at the Art Panel is: "Can we opt out of everything you just showed us?"

If you implement those ship explosions that you released at last fanfest then that will certainly blow the remaining competition out the water. I've been looking forward to those since they were released.

Well, I'll give the Legion some praise where it's deserved: they know how to party.

And Eve's visual direction has certainly gotten better over the years. It's definitely light years more gorgeous than it was back in Dominion when I first decided to give Eve's trial a chance. It's even better when you realize it's only gonna get better from here on out, just as it has. I big thumbs up to CCP on this one.

Thank you for some beautiful Valklear Minmatar skins. My Cheetah got her first paintjob. Prowler next. :) With that I also wish to give feedback that as much as I like corporation logos on skins. I prefer without, just like Valklear. In future more skins without NPC corp logos! Thank you. Bear

Darwin could expand into far more technical ground but you should know that the eve you see today is not exactly the eve you saw in 2003. CCP does an absolutely impressive amount of "backroom" upgrades to its code which has rendered eve 2015 basically a brand new game.

It would be a mistake to the extreme to assume that EVE:Online 2015 is anything less than a top tier GFX engine. Considering the game is for space ships(which typically have terrible gfx) EVE has gfx technology that rivals top tier FPS games. THAT... is impressive.

Background is looking much better after this morning. You now have to squint your eyes and look real hard to find any imperfections, and the kind of "haze" overlap on some portions of the skybox (the areas with obvious lack of visible starlight) are actually growing on me a little: makes it seem like New Eden is hugging close to some nebulae where some parts of space are cloaked in areas of dark, inactive pockets.

Now, I'm just waiting for sub caps to begin leaving behind actual ship carcasses like the caps and supers do instead of the current instant-ship-turned-into-generic-wreck system we have now.

Though I still miss the old Torp effects...ah, good times!
