Do you really think Sony will make a PS4 that turns all it's multi-player online games obeselete?

Once upon there was a game called Tabula Rasa.

It failed within months having been the most over hyped, under delivered MMO ever.

Eve has been around for the better half of a decade and will be around for much longer.

the end.

And here's hoping CCP releases another WiS expansion soon, so goons and testies can rage quit and make new eden a better place for all.

As far as Dust goes. If CCP put the continued long term development wheels on Dust as they have with Eve since its inception, Dust will only get better with age. CoD can suck it.

I actually own Tabula Rasa. Oops
Yea, that puppy needed to be taken out back of the barn with old yellar.

Yes. You said that releasing games on steam was a sign of them being poor ports, which makes no sense since pretty much any game released these days comes to steam and since it contains plenty of PC exclusives. So it was pretty self-explanatory that your “joke” was a complete non-sequitur.

considering Dust is going to be a console port it won't be very big at all.
…except that it's not going to be ported from the consoles and that the server will be quite big indeed.
Quote:
CCP is using Eve subscriber money on a new game, when that game goes under, so does eve.
Wrong way around: since if the other game is funded with EVE money, if that game goes under, the funding reverts to EVE. In reality, though, the bulk funding really comes from various investors.

DUST will have a very small audience compared to COD, BF, KZ, and Halo. I feel that 99% of the people that will be playing DUST are going to be EVE players, and that is only if it is a) a good FPS to begin with, and b) actually worth playing in support of EVE.

MMOFPS doesn't mean anything since there is already PEC in standalone FPS like CoD, BF and just about every other new FPS where you have to gain EXP to unlock new items and weapons. If the game is clunky and unbalanced it will just further push people away which after watching game play video at this point it seems like it is.

To say that DUST is not competing with games like CoD and BF is just ignorance. But keep telling yourself that DUST is going to be some special little snowflake that doesn't need those millions of players to like it then see me again with the servers of DUST are sitting empty because CoD released it's newest iteration.

I don't know, do you know anyone that still plays the sims 2 online? Not a sony game, but you get the idea. That's what consoles do, that's kind of the principle behind it. Gamers buy new consoles for.. you guessed it! New games! Not to play the same crap they were playing the last 5 years.

They don't play the Sims because an updated version of the game came out.

Look at MW1, 2 and 3 they are all really similar.

The other really funny thing is that PS4 gets announced this year, should of made if for PC CCP.

Dust will also run on the PS4 out of the box. Sony cannot afford to botch backwards compatability on their next console and CCP wouldn't have agreed to this if they weren't sure of it. They mentioned this explicitely multiple times at FF 2009.

It's not competing with CoD and BF for the same reason that, say, Borderlands isn't competing with CoD and BF — different game, different genre, different customer base. And it doesn't need those millions of players much like EVE doesn't. Does TQ become empty every time WoW releases its newest iteration?

…and yet, that's exactly what they're doing, and why BlandShooter N+1™ sells: because it's the same game people have been playing for the last 5 years, only with some new stuff. This is no different than, say, releasing a yearly expansion to an MMO.

Sure, cause when Dust doesn't sell for the millions they owe on it, that money is just going to appear out of nowhere right? Surely Eve, their only source of income, won't suffer as they struggle to pay everything back.

And we're not even counting the rage quitters who are going to leave after they decide they don't like the changes Dust is making to Eve. More income lost right there. And there will be rage quitters.

Do you think your typical pimple faced stock boy at Best Buy is not going to look at the box, see a bunch of futuristic battle suits shooting stuff, look at the invoice that reduces it simply as "Shooter" and not place it next to other games? Especially if CCP does NOT pony up an exclusive item within the box?

Using PS4 as a doomsday element of Dust 514 is defeating yourself. It won't be the factor that hurts 514. Dust 514 doing well because it's going to work on PS4? Don't count on it.

I'm not arguing with anyone who thinks Dust 514 is going to be a small game population. It's like a local Bistro. It will get the locals in but people aren't going to come from far and wide to play it. If CCP and Sony showcase it and it's actually good? It might do OK. I don't want to bury it before its time.

Then please enlighten me as to which genre DUST is going to be placed in if not FPS. Borderlands is a storyline driven single player/CO-OP RPG that uses the first person setting. DUST is a red vs. blue online FPS. To say that DUST is not competing with Borderlands is correct. DUST is in direct competition with CoD, BF and KZ though.

Also if EVE had half of the subscribers that WoW has I would agree with your point but obviously WoW is the winner on this front.

I wonder if there is any top-down pressure from big alliance leadership on their members to get PS3s in anticipation that Dust will drastically change the Sov mechanic.

And if not, could this potentially cause mass rage-quits when the existing power blocs don't adapt to incorporate the Dust mercs?

Well, none of that really matters to me, I bought my PS3 a month back, signed up for Dust Beta and check my email several times a day for news of the closed Beta launch. I, for one, have been pumped for Dust for years.

Was I disappointed when they first said it was console only? Yes.
Was I even more disappointed when they said it was PS3 exclusive? Yes, but I understand the reasoning they've given, with Xbox's little closed off universe choking the EvE-Dust link possibility.
Am I scared of what the MT model will be? **** yes, but I think that after Incarna and the cluster-**** that NeX was, I can't see them screwing that up again. But who knows, history sometimes repeats itself.

I think this game's biggest competitor is Planetside, as I don't give 2 damns about CoD and won't get BF3 (BECAUSE OF ORIGIN!), and I LOVED PS 1. The best hope is to make it so the Dust players CARE about the EvE universe they are affecting. PS2 will have its continent-sprawling wars with thousands of participants (most likely with several serves, not one universe, not one war), but it'll all just be rotating ownership that doesn't matter to the player over a long term. In Dust, their actions will affect a larger game with "REAL" consequences, and that could really hook a lot of the players that try it when they fully understand what they are a part of.

Can't wait to dual box my Dust toon and EVE toon on the same machine!

This. Truly.

I too am disappointed there is no immediate plans for a PC version of Dust, else CCP would have another subscriber/supporter.

And I highly doubt 0.0 spaceboat alliances will rage quit over Dust... it doesnt effect their spaceboat sovereignty, towers or techmoons as of yet in any way, shape or form.

If CCP were to tie moongoo into PI and expand PI into something that would dwarf techmoons, then we will see things heat up when Dust is released.

But if CCP does that and the powerblocks have tantrums, again, i hope testies and goons are first in line to rage quit.

Remember hobos, you can contract me your stuff for a nominal fee.
