To what extent is the market affected by the number of active players?

As subs go up and down does this affect the market or does the balance between supply of resources vs demand for manufactured items remain the same?

Supply and demand are always in flux. Subs going up and down is just another cog in the wheel. As demand from an increased player base (or insert reason here) goes up the profit margins increase making the item more attractive to manufacturers who then ramp up production to fill the need. Often what happens is there is a lag between noticing the change and getting goods to market. The delay, as more and more manufacturers create goods, can create an surge in goods which then drives down the price.

The good manufacturers can anticipate and have the goods on their way to market while everyone else is scrambling to get production underway Smile

Well, it depends on what the accounts going inactive were doing.

If they were active players, then it will have an impact on the supply and demand of items, if they were cyno alts etc which have moved to a main account, or stopped being used, then it has less of an impact.

Prices will of course change as supply and demand fluctuates, but producers like their margins.

Well, some resources are universe-limited (e.g. moongoo). Those can be reasonably expected to go down as the playerbase contracts.

Some are player-invested-hours limited (e.g. minerals). These can be expected to go down if average hours played per account increases.

It depends on the item

but in general player numbers do not have as much influence on price as one would imagine
