Client download is still broken

I have tried futilely to download the client for the last week with no success. Two machines (Vista64 and XP32), one directly attached to the router the other over wireless both with similar results.

1. The online client installer freezes while trying to execute a file and instead of a 'percentage complete' displays what appears to be a kanji character followed by a 'd' and a comma.

2. Offline, the installer downloads fine but several attempts on the payload packages yield the exact same results. Payload 1 downloads until 1.88Gb and then times out. Payload 2 1.99Gb and times out. Attempts to restart only time out.

3. The metas posted all come back with 404 errors.

Devs? Any chance I can get a little help here?

Ok...

Downloaded the online installer yet again and it failed...yet again.

It hangs on:

Extract: 7z.dll... 100%
Extract: downloader.exe... 100%
Extract: library.zip... 100%

eveonline_326279_2of2.7z has to be downloaded
Payload_2: C:\Users\Shea\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\downloads\eveonline_326279_2of2.7z
Create folder: C:\Users\Shea\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\downloads
Downloading http://content.eveonline.com/326279/eveonline_326279_1of2.7z;http://content.eveonline.com/326279/eveonline_326279_2of2.7z to Downloading {payload} to {location}
Execute: C:\Users\Shea\AppData\Local\Temp\nsw3E4B.tmp\downloader.exe http://content.eveonline.com/326279/eveonline_326279_1of2.7z;http://content.eveonline.com/326279/eveonline_326279_2of2.7z --outpath="C:\Users\Shea\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\downloads" --nsis_hw=1049180

I went into the last file and there is a "download message" file which states:

Downloading=Downloading
CantResolveUrl=Target payload not found
TimeoutWhileOpeningSocket=Timed out, check your connection

So the installer is looking for a file that doesn't exist on CCP's site?

Since trying to download the client is still broken for me, out of frustration I bought a hardcopy. Now after patching it all I get is the splash screen then nothing. The .exe file is still running but the game refuses to load.

Here is the log file:

Cancelling both my accounts as I see no reason to pay for a game that I can't play.

I would love to help, but your link gives "No such downlodable file or incorrect removal code."

Usually the "splash -> client dies" has in my experience indicated that your directX install is not up to date.

Wouldn't hurt to try reinstalling latest DirectX and trying again.

All my drivers are up to date, it was the first thing I checked.

Did you already clear your settings manually? Or try running the client in safe mode?

Edit:
A GM just poked me that this looks like missing DirectX dlls (EVE Online requires a special DirectX Version) and running the DXSETUP.exe under bin\DirectX inside you EVE Online installation folder should fix this.

Cleared the settings, ran the DirectX inside Eve (again), ran the repair tool.... All with the same results. Splash screen then nothing, though the exefile continues to run in the task manager.

Ran in safe mode as well with the same effect. Don't know if you want a log file of that too?
