One other thing that has gone wrong tonight that I don't know how to recify is the Drone tracking device I was trying to deliver as part of the Sisters of Eve mission. During one of the several ship losses I've had tonight I have lost the device and I have no idea where. What can I do to complete the mission without it?

I am not even sure which system I was in when I lost it :( it wasn't the mission system though

File a petition and ask a GM for help.

GM's love to help new people, plus they can reset a mission so you can acquire lost items (normally only done for beginner missions).

How do I file a petition? sorry if thats a dumb question.

lol I foolishly thought I was starting to feel comfortable in Eden. It kicked me up the backside to teach me a lesson haha

OMG, after 2 hours I have finally made it back to Arnon and equipped a Rifter. Feeling a little bit safer.

I see, lowsec and Shadow Cartel territory is probably not the best to start, but did you contact the players who blew you up for survival tips? You totally should try that. Also I'm wondering where your medical clone is, as you were cought in lowsec again 10min after your first pod loss ...

Ever think about joining the guys that blew you up? Youre in an NPC corp at the moment and you have an opportunity to tell them "Good fight. Im new, can I join you guys and learn whats up?"

I can do this? Shocked

There's usually two ways people end up flying with bloodthirsty savages.

By referral or by getting shot in the face and taking it well.

Generally speaking we tend to look favourablely on plucky newbros willing to take it on the chin.

There's something of a tradition amongst the veterans of inflicting losses on newbies as a sort of litmus test.
If they rage and spit vial you can laugh at them , if they take it well you shower them with advice
(some of us have been known for replacing ships/reimbursing isk)

The people who've blasted you will most likely (though not necessarily) fairly easy going and willing to chat with you.

I'm feeling a little better now but earlier was was fuming haha. Lesson learnt

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

omg I've been destroyed again. this time on the SOE mission. Thats the 4th Rifter I have gotten through in as many hours. What am I doing wrong? Up until tonight I could manage hostiles fairly easily, then all of a sudden BAM. I can't even last 30 seconds against these guys :(

I want to cry

Which mission?
Are you exploding to players or to NPC mission ships?

Don't cry, think about what happened, review the mission, review your fit...

Post the fit for your rifter, that might be why you're exploding.

First of all, in the fittings screen there should be a button to save the fitting, so at least you can remember what to put in next time.

Second of all, buy 5 of everything (5 Rifters, 5 of each module).

Third, the SoE story arc is mostly easy missions and then towards the end you get a bunch of HARD boss fights. These are meant to teach you some advanced combat techniques, such as:

- what to do when the enemy completely drains your capacitor with energy neutralizers.
- how to survive in a frigate fight vs. a bigger cruiser.
- how to maximize your DPS (you need at least 120 DPS for one of the fights).

For the neutralizer fight, you need to either:

- stay outside the range of the neutralizer (20+ km).
- use passive (no capacitor) modules and weapons (projectile weapons and missiles don't use cap, armor repairer does, though).
- use a capacitor booster (with charges) or ancillary shield booster (with charges) so you still have juice when you get depleted

For the bigger target fight, you need to increase your speed (afterburner) and consider increasing your agility (nanofibers or inertial stabilizers) so you can orbit close and avoid taking damage because the big ship can't track you.

For max DPS use short range weapons (autocannons, rockets), with high-damage short range ammo, and gyrostabilizers in the low slots.

Also, you always have the option of asking someone in Arnon to help you out for the boss fight. Normally people will PVP you, but in Arnon they're often helpful enough to help out instead of shooting you.

In any case, the SoE missions, towards the end, are harder, and you're supposed to think about the fittings in your ship and change them to adapt.

Oh wow, that's pretty bad.

Fitting a ship, in general:

1. Start with the weapons. Pick long range or short range. If you look at your Rifter's description (right-click it and show info), it offers damage bonuses if you fit projectile weapons, so fit those! Fit short range autocannons:

High slots: 3x 125mm Gatling Autocannon I

2. Whether it's long range or short range, you need propulsion to control the range:

Med slots: 1mn Afterburner I

3. Fit defenses. You're a frigate, so the defenses are your speed and agility. And maybe a shield booster or armor repairer. Because of the energy neutralizing issue with the one boss mentioned above, try a passive shield defense. This means you want to extend your shield as much as possible, and then increase the natural regeneration rate of your ship's shield. It uses no cap at all. So:

Med slots: Medium Shield Extender I (this is a cruiser-sized module, oversized for the Rifter)
Low slots: Shield Power Relay I x3 (these will recharge your bigger shield)

Remaining slots:

Med slot: Explosive Deflection Amplifier I (shield resistance module)
High slot: if you have the powergrid skills to fit a rocket launcher, go ahead. You can try to replace one of the Shield Power Relay I's in the low slots with a Micro Auxiliary Power Core to create more power to fit the rocket launcher, but your defenses will be lower.

I copied this fitting from the EVE University wiki, and a lot of people say they have some pretty bad fittings there, but it's better than what you have. You can google "Rifter PVE Fittings" if you want, but the basic idea is the same:

- start with the weapons and figure out what range you want to fight at
- make all other slots enhance the weapons or provide appropriate defenses (including speed as a defense)

You typically want all the slots on a ship to be fitted for a purpose, rather than with random crap that you have in your hangar from previous missions.

Tracking the Queen (Part 3) by any chance ?

You need to dump the data in the can and get out quick if your not combat capable.

Hmm, usually "Against the Hive" is the one hard SoE mission (though I guess with that Rifter fit any mission is hard).

Anyway, your ship-fitting knowledge definitely needs a bump, the Eve University wiki linked above is a good start and generally a wealth of information (if sometimes somewhat basic, but that is not a problem for you right now).
Also consider those Fitting Guidelines for more general information and theory on ship-fitting.

Also, you should have two "help" channels ingame for immediate.... help, the first one "Rookie Channel" or something is especially dedicated to new players (only available for the first 30 days), the second one, "Help" Channel, for everyone.

Hi Big smile

I'm a new player too.. about 12 days old.. also around Arnon sector so hit me up if you wanna fleet up and do stuff together.

Anyway.. in regards to your question about insurance and ships.. don't expect too much.. they pay you some ISK when you get your ship destroyed but most probably won't cover your costs anyway...

Have you done career agent missions? Those missions serves as introductory tutorials and you can get a few million ISK and a bunch of frigates, mining barge and destroyer.. so perhaps that will solve your problem and make you happier. Just press F12 and start...

See ya around.

No one method is the right method, nor the wrong method.

If you run missions, I suggest not using ACs, but going long range instead.

It makes it far less tedius. A thrasher with 280s works wonders for lvl1s and lvl2s.

I suggest you go read guides on fitting ships, instead of copying fittings of others.

You know how it works. Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day ...
... and annoy you the next day again, because he wants another fish ...
... so he'll just get killed, because he's an annoying, self entitled ****.

Instead, teach him how to fish so you don't have to kill him.

:)

Oh and ... it looks like you did not do all tutorials ...

There's tutorials that teach you how to fit your ship, at least rudimentarily.
I assume you did not do all of them, else you wouldn't have fitted your ship this way.

It's like you either completely ignored it, or didn't do them at all.

Do them.
Read guides.
It's not hard, really.

Just take your time.
In EVE, everything takes time. :)
