Starting the IGB black screens, quitting the IGB freezes the client...

Hi guys,

I am having the following problem:

Starting the IGB will cause the IGB to open, but to a black screen.

Now, previously, this would cause my client to freeze up about 50% of the time requiring me to force quit the wine client. This appears to have been fixed, I don't have to open activity monitor anymore, search for the right (out of several, since I run several clients) wine processes and quit that. So I guess one could consider this a "fix"... The other 50% of the time I would be able to play and use the IGB normally. So my normal start-up procedure would be:
1) log on
2) start up IGB
3) if client freezes force quite EVE, the IGB process and the wine process using the activity monitor and repeat steps 1 and 2 until success.
4) Once opened, NEVER close the IGB (minimizing is fine...)

This problem appears to have been "fixed". Now, the IGB is just useless. It will launch to a black screen but any activity freezes my EVE client. I can minimise the IGB and fly around, but I cannot use it. Closing the IGB freezes my EVE client.
I have to force quit it (normally... hey, a fix!!! no more Activity Monitor stuff!!!) or if I wait long enough I either get a "Buffer overflow" or "this application aborted abnormally" error message. (I guess crashing with an error message is an improvement over completely ******* over your system... but not much...)

I'm hoping that someone has a "fix" like described above or other workaround. I have already submitted an in-game bug report, but as someone who spends a lot of time in wormholes the current situation is unplayable, I need my mapping tools (tripwire or soggy.)

Thank you, there are many Mac users who are extremely concerned with this issue.

Whilst I understand completely the reluctance with dealing with IGB issues, when it is slated for removal, the new tools are not yet in place to enable us to work around this issue.

Please give this issue the priority it clearly requires, the issue has grown in significance with the new Beta launcher, being such an excellent tool.

In my experience, the IGB still works with wine, (old launcher) and "usually" when using the Standard old launcher, but is catastrophic 100% of the time when the game has been started with the new launcher.

Windows users know about this bug too....

I had a guy in nullsec watching the OSX chat channel and trying to get me to click a link. He was attempting to crash my client so he could easily kill me.

How's that for fun Eve!

This bug has unfortunately prevented some of my wormhole people to suspend or quit eve because they rely on the in-game browser to map wormholes using third party programs. Without these tools, they simply do not feel like playing if they cannot navigate space.

Hi,

If your using the beta launcher then you can fix this by doing the following.

1. Close the launcher and the client if either is running.
2. In finder, click Go to Folder and copy paste the following

~/Library/Application Support/EVE Online/p_drive/Local Settings/Application Data/CCP/EVE/SharedCache

3. You should see a folder named cider-EveOnlinePremium-iso-010805-nodata-skel – move that folder to trash

After this the IGB should work again. If your using the old launcher I suggest you try the beta launcher.

THANK YOU!!!

That appears to work. It's not entirely reliable, sometimes the second account that tries to launch the IGB still has issues (irrespective of which account got launched first), but at least I can try and relaunch until I have both accounts with IGB up and working. (To be safe, I'll simply never close them, just minimise, hope that works.)

There still are issues though.

Launching the IGB now crashes (black screen, crash when you close) about half the time.

Working with two accounts, if the first IGB launches and you start the second IGB soon after (minutes) it will black screen and crash on close. It will sometimes also crash the first client.

This is then compounded by the fact that I cannot differentiate between the two clients (plus two IGB processes) when I try to force quit, and regularly guess wrong.

Once I have two clients and two browsers up and running everything is fine though. Getting to that point can take a while unfortunately. (As a WH player I prefer to have WH mapping tools up on both my toons... I guess I could map on just one, but this shouldn't be necessary...)

I confirm this happens to me after the last client update which i have downloaded yesterday.

Laggy gameplay when changing sessions (jump gates or exit the station)

IGB once opened, only black screen , if you insist clicking on stop, or insert an URL and click go a few times, nothing happens
and then the game freezes.

I did not install Eve from scratch, i have just downloaded the new launcher, installed it, and removed the old one.

With old launcher i did not have any problems at all.

This! This so much just needs to happen. They can redirect you from a link in game to an out of game browser the bug reports link does it and it's about time they just let us have all links do that. My IGB is once again crashing the client (bug report EBR-64035) and at this point it obvious they can't keep it working for more than 1-2 small patches. It's almost comical how much time they spend fixing the IGB compared to how much time it actually works for us.

I am able to work around IGB related hangs on the Mac by always starting the IGB immediately after entering the game. More often than not, the browser will start successfully and be perfectly usable. If not, I have to kill the client and try again. I don't recall ever having to try more than twice.

If one opens mail or other windows before, the browser launch is much more likely to hang the client or start with black background and be unusable.

This is pretty good workaround. Problem is its confounded by CCP's practice of naming all the processes EVE Online so it's really difficult to alt tab to the client of your choosing.

Not sure if this is the place to ask, but i'll go ahead.

Since this work around is sporadic at times, I made an automator app that deletes the folder and then launches the launcher.

Question is, does deleting this folder every startup do anything bad?
