Hi

So I insured my ship a while back whilst in a different sector (can't remember which). I just got blown up and want a new ship from my insurance. How do I get it?

Insurance works to pay out ISK for a part of the ship hull's cost. It wouldn't grant you a new ship. You can verify the sum by looking in your wallet journal.

You can, however, gain a free newbie frigate when you dock your pod in a station that does not have a ship of yours already.

To get a new ship, you'll find the most competitive prices in Amarr and Jita, usually. But sometimes people sell their ship for cheap if they're eager to get rid of it without having to move it to a market hub. Though even in that case you'll need to outfit the ship, so best to head to the market.

You appear to have been misinformed. Insurance provides a payout of ISK reimbursement to cover the loss of your ship. It does not provide you a replacement ship. You can find the ISK payment in your wallet transactions.

Do note that as you fly increasingly valuable/large ships the insurance payout will be less than what you paid to acquire the ship.

If you are looking to buy a new ship,, without any specific fittings to start, then look here:

https://eve-central.com/
Type your ship into the search bar and it will show the different buy and sell orders for the ship requested.

You should have received a notification from the insurance company the moment your ship died and the policy amount paid to your wallet.

As others have said, you do not get a new ship - you get ISK you can use to partially cover the cost of a new ship.

Some limitations:

- payout is based on the mineral cost to build the ship. this works reasonably well for standard T1 hulls. Insuring pirate, specialty, T2 or T3 hulls is a waste. A Gnosis, for example, requires 1 unit of Tritanium to build - insurance payout is a couple of ISK!
- insurance does not cover the cost of modules, rigs or cargo
- insurance expires after 90 days unless you renew, you should get a notification.

A few other things to add to the above:

- insurance only covers ~80% of the mineral value of the hull cost. This is an important factor when choosing a ship you want to use. With Tech 1 ships you will get back most of what you paid for. With more advanced ships, their cost has less to do with minerals and more with rarity and "special materials"... so insurance will value them at a fraction of what you bought them for on the market.

- insurance will not cover whatever weapons, modules, or cargo you had in your ship.

- insurance will not reward you for "surviving longer." In fact, it will indirectly penalize you by not being "cost effective" after he second time you insure your ship (if it has survived that long).

- insurance is supposed to "soften the blow" of loss... not remove it. In EVE, loss is supposed to hurt. Just make sure the "other guy" loses more. ;)

Shocked Where are you? In Nullsec? If you have not changed the home station, you can destroy your pod and then you are back in Highsec, where you can head to the nearest trade hub to buy a new ship ...

I see, lowsec and Shadow Cartel territory is probably not the best to start, but did you contact the players who blew you up for survival tips? You totally should try that. Also I'm wondering where your medical clone is, as you were cought in lowsec again 10min after your first pod loss ...

Ever think about joining the guys that blew you up? Youre in an NPC corp at the moment and you have an opportunity to tell them "Good fight. Im new, can I join you guys and learn whats up?"

For sure!
If it was other players that blew you up, you can open the lossmail you have from your death (shows who killed you, with what, and what you lost). Right+click the name of one of the guys that killed you, and send message (eve mail). Then just ask them in the message to join them if possible!

Sure, this is a social game. And getting blown up is a good starting point for a conversation ... as killing is a means of communication in EvE. Blink

One other thing that has gone wrong tonight that I don't know how to recify is the Drone tracking device I was trying to deliver as part of the Sisters of Eve mission. During one of the several ship losses I've had tonight I have lost the device and I have no idea where. What can I do to complete the mission without it?

I am not even sure which system I was in when I lost it :( it wasn't the mission system though

There's usually two ways people end up flying with bloodthirsty savages.

By referral or by getting shot in the face and taking it well.

Generally speaking we tend to look favourablely on plucky newbros willing to take it on the chin.

There's something of a tradition amongst the veterans of inflicting losses on newbies as a sort of litmus test.
If they rage and spit vial you can laugh at them , if they take it well you shower them with advice
(some of us have been known for replacing ships/reimbursing isk)

The people who've blasted you will most likely (though not necessarily) fairly easy going and willing to chat with you.

File a petition and ask a GM for help.

GM's love to help new people, plus they can reset a mission so you can acquire lost items (normally only done for beginner missions).
