So the background nebulas look way more pix elated than before the update... is there a setting that happened of was this to be expected. I don't care for the new look..

That's interesting, they look better to me, must be a setting, not sure which one.
Possibly a video card driver issue?

Looks like **** to me, too. Well, some of them. They're massively zoomed in or something, but not the entire sky, just certain sections.

Seeing much the same, kinda looks like I have turned down settings ready for a fleet fight Sad

The camera field of view has been narrowed slightly.

Here we go. Commented for weeks on the test forum thread about how bad these camera changes were and that people were not going to be happy if they pushed them onto live. With the patch release on the 8th some of the changes seem to have been published (with others apparently locked till they are more polished Roll)

One of which being changes to the FOV and the way it ruins background textures whether the optional new camera functions are enabled or not. With the full new camera functions enabled the entire background star field and nebulas are effected whenever you zoom in or out on your ship. Similar to the effect you could see when you held the right mouse button to zoom in/out previously.

The result is horribly pixelated starfields and nebula's and it destroys the sense of distance to far distant objects by making them look as if they are just painted on a wall right behind your ship. (which they of course basically are but with the old camera the FOV combined with the lack of zoom on distant objects during normal zoom operations at least created the illusion of distance.)

Combine that with shortcut keys that do absolutely nothing, taking away the ability to center the camera on your ship (the camera moves off center based on ship velocity to produce a more "cinematic" effect), nausea inducing wobble and that they removed the ability to focus the camera on objects selected on the overview (essential to dscanning) and what we've got is a potentially decent set of idea's that are completely broken and useless. (camera moving off own ship center seems to have been introduced into live as a bug with this release as well. It constantly has to be reset)

Sorry CCP, I hate to moan but all sorts of issues and complaints with these new cameras were brought up at length on the test server forums weeks ago but seem to have been ignored.

As far as I can tell every bit of this is just to make flying around future citadels look cooler.... not worth it.

I dont think FoV changed at all. Also all the camera changes are supposed to be opt in. and it seems like they haven't even launched them yet. They were very beta status when I saw them last on sisi. And typically feedback is more helpful than several paragraphs of ranting/complaining.

from patch notes:
Quote:
The background star-field now has an added depth, as it can be occluded by Nebulae phenomenons. The density and sharpness has been adjusted to hide repetitive patterns.

My main issue is more that I can see the bands of color in some of the nebulae. also the lack of stars just makes some parts of space look "muddy" It is especially bad in the forge.

The FOV has changed. You could get exactly the same effect pre patch by using the advance camera hot keys to change the FOV

Your correct that camera changes are supposed to be opt in however..... the new cameras feature an even more extreme FOV effect.. the suspicious side of me thinks CCP changed the current camera FOV so when we compare it to the new cameras coming on the 15th... they wont seem so bad...

I hope Im wrong.

In any case they should roll back this nebula/star field change.. IMO it looks really bad.

Yes, it's brighter and the Nebulae have more depth (covering stars). There's a new "Brightness" button to a slider on the right hand side in "Display & Graphics" (Graphic Content Settings) where you can adjust it.

Patch notes:

- The battle between light and dark is over, the brightness slider has been implemented into the settings menu!

- The background star-field now has an added depth, as it can be occluded by Nebulae phenomenons. The density and sharpness has been adjusted to hide repetitive patterns.

This is completely invalid to say, because you don't even know which nebulae you are comparing.

Look at this.
Minmatar.

Toony colours.
Lots of colour banding.
Compression artefacts.

I am so sick, tired and angry of looking at them ...
... seeing how completely broken they are for YEARS now ...
... I feel like causing a shitstorm over this.

That is just petty!

You should stick to creating underwear!

Maybe a Nebulae bra with glitches?

Yes the new skyboxes arn't currently working right.

Undocked from jita minutes after the update and got treated to a blurry pixelated sea of colorbanded browns.

Would be nice to get a CCP response on this.

Can you screenshot that and upload it to imgur?

Wondering how it looks like...

Yea I ready that later last night. It's like they did exactly what some one said, they zoomed in, but lost the quality of the image while doing It.
