Yep, same here. Starts with

err:d3d:wined3d_debug_callback 0x1bb6c080: "GL_INVALID_ENUM in glTexImage3D(target can't be compressed)".
err:d3d_surface:volume_load >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GL_INVALID_ENUM (0x500) from glTexImage3D @ volume.c / 94
....

and ends with

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x6400027c in 32-bit code (0x6400027c).
....

and a register dump.

Same problem here.

Changing Texture Quality to Low however makes gameplay possible,

Alt-Tabbing til Linux makes the game crash though (Not a problem prior to the December Release).

Note: Switching to Windowed Mode is a temp-fix for the Alt-Tab.

Linux: LFS 7.4
Wine: 1.7.23 (Compholio Release)
GFX: GeForce GTX 770
GFX-Driver: 358.09

Same problem with the two latest GeForce Drivers: 352.63 and 358.16

Switching to Medium Texture Quality in-game make Wine come up with this backtrace (complete module-list not included):

I've played around with this and the LogServer. Found an exception about Invalid Arguments, which originated with DirectX. Switching to DirectX 9 (which can be done from launcher settings) fixed the problem.

exactly the same issue
started a thread on it and issued a support ticket.

rather annoying , let's wait and see what CCP does with this .

simple , if you need testers for eve running on linux / release why not have an open call for volunteer / community testers ?
Any one of us on the thread could have saved this from happening .

good luck

I tried installing the wine-development package from apt-get and to run Eve like usual but replacing wine with wine-development in the command line.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr80=b,n" wine "/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE/bin/ExeFile.exe"

was the command line I was using successfully for 2 years. Replacing wine with wine-development in that command allowed me to test out wine-1.7.29 which is newer than the one I have, but the issue still remains.

I have received reports about people using wine 1.8rc3 and having no problem at all with today's patch, but I can't verify it just yet.

There is no newer pre-packaged wine for my distribution (Debian 8.2) so trying out wine1.8rc3 will probably require fresh compilation at least for me. If you have a more bleeding edge distribution you might be able to have that with the wine-development package already.

Edit: I am trying a newer wine-development version from Debian backports repositories, will report soon.

TL:DR - Upgrading wine to at least 1.7.52 fixes the issue for me, 1.7.22 was not enough.

Commands I ran were

sudo apt-get install wine-development
sudo apt-get install -t jessie-backports wine-development

Launching client with

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="*msvcrt,*msvcr100,*msvcr80=b,n" wine-development "/home/username/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/CCP/EVE/bin/ExeFile.exe"

The above-mentioned commands may or may not apply to your specific distribution and I didn't test Eve extensively yet although I can now login and not crash.

Did you have to purge wine to get that to work, and then reinstall all the fixes with winetricks?

Nope, I have both wine and wine-development installed alongside each other. They also have separate configuration files which can be accessed by typing in terminal either

winecfg

or

winecfg-development

Wine 1.6 and Wine 1.7 are co-existing in my system, if you use 'wine' in your commands it will launch the 1.6 one, if you use wine-development it will launch the 1.7 (or more recent one).

The steps I listed works only for Debian 8 version, other distributions may have different ways of dealing with things or may have wine >1.7.52 already installed by default or under another package name which is not wine-development, but the concept still holds.

does work (with "aptitude install -t jessie-backports wine-development")

wine-development 1.7.52-1~bpo8+1
