Can anyone tell me where i can get a civilian salvager. I had one to complete a quest but my ship was destroyed and i cant find a replacement in the market. Without it i cant progress.

Thanks.

Can't you just buy and use a normal salvager? Civilian equipment are usually only good for the tutorials, but are almost totally worthless outside them. If you really need a civilian version to complete the mission, I suggest looking at the market/contracts or petitioning it and asking a GM to either replace the loss, since it's just a tutorial or reset the mission.

You can use a normal salvager, it will take maybe 2 hours to go train the right skills (probably less actually) , alternatively start asking some other new players in system if they will lend/sell theirs. Its does't go away after you complete the mission.

A good time to start networking. Which is a good skill for this game.

I've tried using a normal salvager but that wont work.
I've also tried to create a contract but the system wont recognise the civilian salvager.
What or who is a GM? by the way. Thats my last stop on the list.

Thanks.

Why won't a normal salvager work?

GMs are game masters. They're the ones who handle in-game petitions (and probably more).

Ya they're the support team

The only way to contact them is via the petition system and in game you can get to the petitions section with the help window (F12).

They tend to be particularly helpful to new players that seemed to have screwed up a mission or gotten locked into a situation where they can't progress along the tutorials any more.

That's because of lack of skills or lack of fitting space. You can use anything on a rookie ship that fits and that you've got skills for.

Yes. This was the situation. I've used the regular salvagers any number of times.

What you want to do - is get a better ship, pretty much anything will be better than that rookie ship.

Also - if your ship gets blown up - bookmark the wreck - and check to see what if any of your modules is in the wreck. That civilians salvager may have been in there. Of course, it might not have been.

As to using Rookie ships:

1) you can repackage the rookie ship - which will put the miner and weapon in your items hangar - then assemble it - and it will assemble with a new set of a civilian miner and rookie weapon. You can't fit two miners on a rookie ship but you can fit two of the weapons.

2) All rookie ships carry a drone. Train Drones/Drones and Drones/Scout Drone Operation - they're cheap and take maybe half an hour to train the two of them. Then buy a drone. That one drone probably has more hitting power than both those civilian weapons you could put on there.

3) Rookie ships are repaired for free.

4) Rookie ships can't fit a regular after burner but they can fit a Civilian Afterburner - though these cost more than they're worth now.

5) Any time you enter a ships hangar in your pod that does not already have a ship in it - you will be given a new, free rookie ship.

6) You can fit a Civilian Shield Booster on a Rookie ship. If you're fitting it with rookie weapons - that's probably a better choice than the civilian after burner.

7) The Velator is the best rookie ship - because it carries two drones. You'll need to train Drones/Drones to Level II to use two of them though - but that's not that big a deal. Gallente Frigate I will let you fly a Velator. But then you'd have to find one ... as they aren't on the market. Sometimes people leave them laying around abandoned and you can go get it and board it. Watch out if it's about to explode. Mostly, even though it is something you can do, fooling with things like this is not worth doing - just get into something better than a rookie ship.

8) Getting out of the rookie ship. Mining Frigates cost about 20k. You can usually find some in most starter systems and they give them to you for free in the career agent missions. You can put those two free civilian miners you got repackaging your rookie ship on this mining frigate as well as one of those drones (if it's not a Burst). Look at the market - see a system where someone is buying Dense Veldspar or one of it's varialbes - then fly over there and do mine and return, selling your little load of ore - don't refine it - each time. That can accumulate you a little bank roll - that among other things - can buy you better stuff than rookie ships, miners and weapons. You can also put weapons on that mining frigate. It may not be much of a combat frigate - but if you can't afford something better - it's better than a rookie ship.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I'm getting used to the game now, even after being set up a couple of times. Starting to understand the way things operate in here.

Hi Spencer,

Its nice to see you are enjoying the game and as everyone on this forum will tell you, has a very steep learning curve. If you haven't already done so, there are lots of Corporations ingame that love to help new players, which would be greatly beneficial to yourself as you will have knowledge at hand from your corp members. :)

One of the best guides around is the ISK Guide: http://www.isktheguide.com/ quite long but well worth the read!

You can also visit (and also contribute if you so wish) to EVElopedia: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Main_Page

Hope this helps!
