Mac Shared cache question

Hi all,

I know this must have been asked a million times, so I'll ask one more time because I am a Mac noob! :)

I want to install and run EVE from an external drive, but also have the shared cache on the external. I can't seem to change the location in the launcher, it's greyed out...

Can anybody please guide me to get the whole game and cache onto an external drive? I would be forever in your debt.

Thank you very much!

I have this exact same request, but it is not possible. For some reason, the Mac cache location is not customizable. This is a problem because my 128 GB SSD is getting full, and a big chunk is the EVE cache (it was about 25 GB until I reinstalled the other day, and now it is only 2.2 GB). I'd very much like to move it to an external device (probably a USB3 memory stick).

This is on my todo list for the new launcher, but I can't promise when I'll get to it.

+my vote, this needs to happen. My work MacBook is filled up with like, work stuff, EVE needs to be completely on an external.

That said, will symlinking the shared cache directory work? In theory, I don't see why not but figured I'd ask before I bork something...

I don't see any reason why symlinking wouldn't work, but I haven't tried it personally.

Open a terminal and do the following.

$ cd /Users/[your user name]/Library/Application\ Support
$ mv EVE\ Online [destination]
$ ln -s [destination]/EVE\ Online "EVE Online"

Replace [your user name] with your user name, and [destination] with wherever you want to move the shared cache to. In my case, I put it in the Games folder of my My Book, so the mv and symlink looked like this:

$ mv EVE\ Online /Volumes/My\ Book/Games
$ ln -s /Volumes/My\ Book/Games/EVE\ Online "EVE Online"

Hope this helps folks. I don't use EVE on my work Macbook much, but I tried this out and it seems to work just fine, and i gained back a bunch of needed space.
