Excessive CPU usage

My Macbook Air gets incredibly hot and the CPU stays high even when I'm sitting in a station with static background. Is there a way to disable whatever is causing that? I spend most of my time trading so I don't need any fancy rendering. I'm worried this will wreck my computer over the long term.

Anyway, yes, Ive seen the launcher be a CPU hog, and cause alot of heat. Today, it's not doing so, so it's spotty. I'm not sure why it is a hog sometimes, but not others.
