Decline in numbers... starting to turn into RAPID!!!

Items are being devalued (Plex aside)
Lack of targets for PVP
Lack of friends to communicate with
Lack of competition leading to stale gameplay
Lack of content from lackluster Development

We are going to hit a critical mass point where it will be hard to come back from. Soon when the numbers drop to a point where people are leaving just because the numbers have dropped, CCP will have to spend some real effort to figure out retention.

Now I know there is very emotional arguing from all sides on why the retention is so low. I think lack of PVE content and increased High Sec hostility coupled with Blue Donut and lack of need for specialized alts. Some think its CCP catering to the PVE class (lulz).

Doesn't matter why, the numbers cannot be argued. We didn't his 30k this weekend until the special event on Sunday brought up to the previous Sunday numbers.

This weekend coming up, I predict 30-31k peaks. Our weekday peaks are anemic. Our US/AU TZ bros are simply not logging in, so once the EU guys log off the game is a ghost town.

CCP Quant: Of all those who logon in Eve, 1.5% do Incursions, 13.8% PVP and 19.2% run Missions while 22.4% mine.

40.7% Join a fleet. The idea that Eve is a PVP game is false, the social fabric is in Missions and Mining.

Leave high sec alone and super buff null sec. Make moon mining an active activity and put the isk into players pockets rather than big alliances.

Go back to 1 or 2 MAJOR releases per year and promote, promote, promote the crap out of them!

Big ships = Big fights = Bigger numbers

The hype machine within CCP seems to be broken, fights like B-R helped create a lot of hype. Hopefully the release of citadels will start to turn things around, but there's no such thing as too much hype as long as you deliver the goods.

No, the hype machine was broken before already.

Thing is that easy minds are easily attracted by buzzwords and huge amounts. Biggest fleet fight in gaming history, hundreds of thousands destroyed, etc. etc. ... but that's simply not the game. The people who are being attracted to this aren't really sticking to the game, as CCP realized by themselves (they said so :p).

That's why CCP is going a different route now and I can't say it's a bad idea. People joining, because of big fights is a-okay per se, but unless they directly join a nullsec alliance, it simply isn't going to happen.

From what I've gathered has this thread ran it's course quite a while ago already ...
... but it keeps that specific type of human attracted and active, so it's all good.

A game that manages to keep even the most hating haters around and active ...
... definitely does it's job well enough ...
... because it manages to keep them as puppets without them even realizing.

Anyone who posts against CCP is only serving themselves and does nothing to actually hurt the game.

No! They're helpfull, because they provide content and boost the subscription count.

That is nice and all. But Mir Jana's numbers were complete Fud.

Average over the whole year is 34k per day
Average over the last six months is 29k per day
Average over the last 3 months is 23k per day
Average over the last 1 month is 20k per day
Average over the last 1 week is 19k per day.

Period average for the week of December 1st last year, was 27k

So we have lost 8k average per day numbers year over year for the same week... or 15k average per day over the course of the last 1 year. Either way you look at it the numbers continue to fall when they SHOULD be increasing at the end of the Summer Season.
We lost twice as many average players in the last 6 months as we had on the trend line the six months prior. We have stayed consistent at losing 10% of our player average per month for the last 3 months.

The numbers are dropping slower because 10% less of a smaller number is indeed a smaller number. But the decline has not stopped.

There's no need for that to be just a suspicion. It has been confirmed for a long time that highsec has the largest number of characters at any given moment in time. Has always been that way.

A few more tweaks to the new AI and CCP is going to be rocking it in the new year.

EDIT: And this is a good point. We are a massive thinktank and debug tester for CCP and Eve. If we want to make it an awesome game, pointing out bugs and offering ideas, both constructively will go a long ways.

I don't know. I remember the old days when I would get invited to random team speaks and shoot the crap with other EVE players.

eve is not dead, any pseudo intellectual eve gamer knows this, you don't need to post here claiming your highly researched analysis.

but stating that it isn't dying, rather than dead... is like stating your 90 year old grandmother isn't dying.

it's just a matter of time until they are forced to go free to play.

and no matter how much you hate free to play, it's the only way to gain numbers...

also another fact is all popular mmos are declining in numbers.

for many reasons... sub fees are not "cool" anymore because apparently 15$ is too much money, the constant nerfs and buffs to things the communities never asked for, the devs thinking they know what's fun for gamers without even testing their new gameplays with their communities, the fact that gaming is trying to cater to mass market rather than gameplay... all in the name for money. the fact that some of these games are ancient and people moving on to different games... the fact that people are sick and tired of grinding in the mmo genre, the fact that mobas and some other genres offer instant gratification pvp, the fact that esports is becoming a norm where players are capable of getting decent income without having to get a so called "real job" and that mmos usually don't offer this...

the list goes on... and the other thing is eve is extremely boring to watch which means it's hard to bring in new players... eve's best attribute is in its concept... the sandbox and its stories and such... but the gameplay is very dull. no one will deny this except fanboys.

eve would get more players if it dropped its sub to 5$ a month, with a cash shop for aesthetics like skins, also of course plex... and if it brought dust (project legion where you at?) into pc within the same login and launcher. if you could choose to fight on planets or fight in space in the same launcher, this game would become popular enough assuming it got a decent advertising budget.

you could also add a social thing to it by adding mini games like poker using isk...

eve doesn't get a huge playerbase mainly because theres no avatars and so it feels less immersive, but the hardcore eve audience protests ccp to not implement it... and ccp listens... they shouldn't... avatars would not affect territorial conquest... it would bring in so many people.
