I've been looking at interceptors that have lots of speed and good for scouting, preferably Gallente or Caldari. Is there anything better?

Yes, Amarr ... or Minmatar ... Lol

Good ceptors IMO are the Taranis (combat, versatility) and the Stiletto (tackle). Ares is now my preferred relic hunter because of fitting options ... but any ceptor can be used as scout.

You're looking for the fleet interceptors, like the Malediction (Amarr), Crow (Caldari), Ares (Gallente) or Stiletto (Minmatar). I'm partial to the Malediction myself, but each one has little variations over the others. The Crow has more mids than the Ares, for example. However, all of them would be well suited to scouting.

Yep, they're all good - you just need to know what to prioritize for your given situation, and that will circumstantially lead you to favor a different ship.

Do you have a clear idea what you'd use the ship for, and what could happen during your excursions? That could highlight the different factors you want to focus on.

You mention a Cal/Gal preference - I'd highly suggest working all 4 racial frigates up to rank 5 sooner than later. Frigate 5, for each race, is likely the most fool-proof, valuable skills to have. You'll find yourself in different frigates all the time.

But if that's too far off in time, or if you're not already well rounded in other areas like core fitting skills then we can choose one of those two based on what you're doing. Generalization before specialization. But when you do start burning down those rank 5's, a quad of Frigate 5's is a great start.

The main thing here is what are you trying to do? Are you light tackle for a fleet or gang, part of an Interceptor Fleet or trying for solo PvP.

If you're light tackle, make sure to fit both a long point and a scram. A small Nos to keep everything fed while Neuted can also be handy. Guns are actually entirely optional and usually only good for fending off light drones sent after you.

For an Inty Fleet fit, I like a long point and either a Damp or a Tracking disruptor in the mids. Fit guns and damage mods.

For solo, you're kind of looking at the wrong ship class. Some of the faction frigates like the Comet or an assault frigate will do far better and only really lack the bubble immunity.

edit: Personally, I like the Malediction for fleet tackle and the Ares or Taranis for Inty Fleet.

I also reckon the Dramiel is the best 'interceptor' out there, except it lacks bubble immunity and is kind of expensive.

Small Gang Archetype: Light-Tackle

Give that a watch. He's not wrong, flying tackle well is hard, especially when you're new and still learning a bunch of things. I've been around a bit over a year and still don't think I'd feel comfortable flying light tackle for a whole fleet. There's a lot to learn from that video though. There is section describing fittings for the 4 tackle Interceptors near the middle of the video I think.

Give it a shot and always strive to learn from the experience, win or lose. Good luck.

My favourite thing to do ... scouting in an inty!

You can fit the Ares for the highest speed.

Overdrives. Lots of them. DCU is pointless, when you are caught you die,
so speed and a small sig is king. Do not waste time with regular tank.
Speed/Sig are your tank!

My favourite interceptor, before cpu rigs, was a Stiletto pumped with overdrives and an expanded probe launcher,
tracking disruptor, point and small cap booster to make it all work. Guys didn't believe their eyes when I warped 300km
right onto a target to tackle it. "How did you fit all of that?" ... Magick.

Alternatively to the launcher, also huge fun: a cloak.

Ares using rails, overdrives, cloak. Midslot a point. Skills for fitting vary, ofc,
but it's extremely forgiving as your only tank will be speed, sig and flying skills.

Had huge fun with this back when BNI was in lowsec, years ago.
Longest congaline ever.
