I recently decided to run my first complex. So I did a little research and decided to go and try to scan one down in a .5 system. I set my filter on my scanner for unknown sites and scanned down a wormhole and a drone infestation but no complex. Was my filter set wrong for scanning down the complex? Are complexes not there at all times and I just missed it? I went to a site that lists all the complex locations so I'm pretty sure one should have been there.

Hidden complexes are Cosmic Signatures, filter out Cosmic Anomalies.

Hidden complexes somewhat rare.

I would do following, make filter that shows all the Cosmic Signatures. Write the list of the cosmic sigs on paper, they are three letters. Then go though the list, scan each sig until you get the identity of the site. WH and hidden complexes will have identifer Unknown Signature (or some such).

Drone infestation (whatever you found) is a complex. Wormholes are also found on the Unknown type.

Precisely this. If they were there all the time, do you think they'd be worth anything? When a site is finished, it despawns and respawns somewhere else, so you have to keep on moving, keep on checking systems.

DED rated plexes, heck even unrated ones, are rare. And competition is ferocious. On a good day I might find one every dozen or 20 systems. On bad day(s) I can scan 50-80 systems without finding a single one.
