Another bump, cos we like to bump.

Do you play EVE like a girl ...because um... you ARE a girl?

Do you know about the WGoE (Women Gamers of EVE) chat channel?

For access information visit the public chat room 'Women Gamers public'.

Good idea for a channel. It would be nice to have more women playing EvE without feeling awkward about it, games in general too. Best of luck ladies :)

Equality i may remind you

Sexism is another i would remind you of.

I showed my wife this thread, who has been gaming with me since i met her 11 years ago and she did this

1. Read it.
2. Looked at it with a puzzled expression
3. Laughed suddenly
4. Said these exact words "get over yourself"
5. kissed my cheek, pure her arms about my shoulders and said "why do women think because they play games they are better than men"
6. She then explained to me that, as a women, she feels that "segregated" gaming channels for women demean women and should be banned.

Just wanted to share my wife's reaction to this thread.

Because i bloody agree with her.

We play EvE, WoW, RIFT, MC, PS/Xbox together and not ONCE has she attempted to use the fact she is female in any game to get attention.

Might want to think about that.

Might want to think about not using one woman as the spokesperson for all women, those sort of generalizations make for a very narrow view on the subject. You probably wouldn't think twice if you saw a group of women getting together for coffee in the real world, why treat this channel any different?

Sorry for derailing the thread

I'm sure that happened. Nothing is stopping you from creating a male-only community.

Just wanting to post in support. I like whatever is necessary to make people comfortable being able to do what they love even if it is something some feel is associated with another gender. I am a cis-gendered, straight, white male from the Midwest of the USA. However, throughout high school I had to put up with frequent threats against my life from my homophobic peers because I liked doing cheer-leading, glee-club, and dancing.

Doing what you love despite stereotypes can be hard, or even dangerous. It is easy for us guys to forget that the gaming industry and community can be harsh and/or incredibly creepy places for many women. There even is an active hate group threatening the livelihoods and even lives of women who become prominent in gaming. No one should have to put up with such things just to do what they love.

This is even before the creepy/stalkerish advances of men who think that is what "friendly" looks like.

Not every woman who games need or wants female gaming groups, my fiancee (who arguably has greater 'gaming cred' than I do) for example is more comfortable in primarily male environments just as I am more comfortable in primarily female environments.

That in no way means others may not benefit from same gendered groups. EvE has plenty of places that are primarily male, primarily people from one geographic background, or have one primary game style.

For some reason though, whenever women come together in gaming, there is always someone (sometimes male, sometimes female who dislikes other women forming groups, sometimes a fictitious female) who feels the need to complain that someone wants to be a part of a group the objector does not want to belong to.

Long story short, I love the idea of your channel; I wish I could be a part of it, but realize that would be against the purpose of the group. Mostly though, regardless of the reason one does not feel the need for something, one person not feeling the need for it does not reduce any other person's right to enjoy it.

Do what y'all love.

most games I play there are about 45% female gamers, least on the servers I play on..
In eve, except Sugar I've only met 2 other females, so ya'll kinda like unicorns, something you hear about but never see..

Thanks for the support Kairnoct Cthylla. It is true that not everyone wants or needs a dedicated channel for women gamers in EVE. However while there are people who want it, we will continue to offer it. Smile

As mentioned in our original post we have a public chat channel (Women Gamers public). Don't be shy about dropping by.

As EVElopedia was shutdown on 29 February 2016, we've edited the OP to link to the Wayback Machine.

The archived page can be found at:

The archived WGoE article was correct as at early 2016.

Everyone is welcome to create their own closed communities in EVE and define who is allowed and who isn't.
