Starter Ship help: Jackdaw or Orthrus?

I haven't played in about a year and starting with a new character. (2nd day)
This time around I'm trying not to get burned out on doing the same missions, but I only play PVE.

Of these two easy entry ships, which one is the most fun to play around with in PVE.
I don't like OP ships because it's boring, but I don't want to grind with an un-powered ships either.
A nice balance, where you feel like the toon is a match for the mission.

I like Light Missiles and plan to skills those to T2, and pretty much will stay there for at least 6 months while I skill other areas.

Anybody have experience with these two for the fun side of PVE?
Or maybe there's a better ship with light missiles that I could get into within about a month.

Thanks

I'm assuming you're in High Sec, yes? In that case, I would say Jackdaw. Takes a bit getting use to switching modes and remembering to actually do just that when needed, but it tanks a little better, is much cheaper, and has plenty of firepower with light missiles anyways. It not as fast as the Orthrus, regrettably. You may also want to look into trying out rockets for the Jack. The Orthrus is also due for a slight nerf in a week anyways (20% per level raw damage is dropping to 15%, meaning a 12.5% cut in potential damage all together).

I've flown both LML fit Orthrus' and Jackdaws and have to say that both have their merits, but the Jack has a bit more to offer until you need cruiser weapons. A rocket Garmur is pretty fun too (just keep an eye on tank), though don't have nearly the same level of experience with that ship and light missiles.

Anyways, good luck and welcome back, mate.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Thanks, nice info.

I was leaning towards the Jackdaw because of cost and I may mess around in Low/null with it and wanted to keep costs reasonable. Looks like it can get in the high 200 + DPS range with LML' s and I only plan to do level 3 missions anyway.

The low sig, decent speed, and good tank make the Jackdaw useable in some L4s too.

Blitzing Recon and Cargo Delivery comes to mind. Big smile

Wonder if it's any worth in running burners. Now that would be pretty boss.

How about try Massive Attack, Pirate Incursion, Gone Berserk. I've done a lot of the L4s in a Confessor. The only ones that are a problem are the ones with lots of webs.
