Fallout 4 got pretty wrecked on Metacritic, initially 4,7, now 5,0.

And while caution is always advised taking advice from strangers, this is too awful a rating to simply blame it on trolls and haters and v/ and whatever. Mind you, The Witcher 3, which was certainly as hyped as FO4 never got any flak on metacritic at all; so much for the "troll" and "hater" argument....
That said, I do hear bad things about the controls (PC), terrible bugs (ok, New Vegas had the same issues and is widely regarded as awesome nowadays), inane railroading into a flat, boring story that is too similar to FO3 by trying to make you care about a "family" which you meet for some 2 minutes total, dumb go-there-kill-this sidequests, removal of all RPG elements in what is supposed to be a RPGame, casualitis, handholding, etc., etc.....

Sod metacritic and all the aggregation sites in all honesty, they are way too vulnerable to vote trolling and people giving bad rating for trivial complaints.

Having already put about 50 hours into it most of that list is complete and utter **** tbh. the only complaints there I think have some merit are the control scheme and the storyline.

Yes the controls feel like they were optimised for console players and yes the story is nowhere near as open ended as previous fallout games. However the combat is much improved, particularly with things like insects and feral ghouls, and the need to find parts for building and modding stuff has lead me to a ton of places I might otherwise not have found. Im also not sure where they got that 'removed all the rpg bits' claim as barring some simplification of the perk tree its identical to FO3 and NV. As for the bug complaint if you bought a fallout game at release and didnt expect bugs then you're either hopelessly naive or ******* stupid, if its that important to you then wait for the patch othewise just deal with it like the rest of us.

Just to be clear Nerath that's not directed at you specifically.

Playing on console here, when I can. RL is doing it's best to keep that from happening, but at least I got a good binge session in this weekend.
So far so good. Loved 3, loved NV, and this one is playing out to be better than either of them.
Unfortunately I had just recently gotten to the point of not stopping to pick up every blasted snowberry I saw in Skyrim, and now all that hard work is undone. With everything in the game having some use I keep getting overloaded with insane quickness.
Eh. That's on me though.

Come hell or high water, this sick world will know I was here.

It's awesome and basically all I play when I play anything since it came out.

I don't know who is experiencing all these bugs in the game but it certainly isn't me. Not so much as a single CTD. I know! Wtf Bethesda?? My theory on critic sites is basically...who is more likely to go post a review? Someone with a bone to pick. Someone who's experience was less than they hoped. Some malcontent, bitterdick that can't stomach change. Eve players more than likely.

The other 11 million or so people are too busy enjoying it to give a damn about writing a review.

Finish the game, though, and tell me you weren't at least a teeny-weeny bit disappointed with how things were wrapped up Cry

I didn't think it was too bad. The path that I took the journey was all the fun with twists and such. The end was just the end. No better or worse than any other Bethesda game. At least they made it so you can continue with some level of purpose after the conclusion. I have no complaints.

It's a good game but it's missing out on what Fallout was/should be (imo). It's now basically a slightly less linear Mass Effect (with equally terrible and similar, per "choice", endings), there's little options to create your own character traits or actions because it's all governed by the silly straightforward dialogue options and lack of a karma/reputation system. Also you can't really create silly builds anymore.

It's all very much "stream lined" which is another word for "dumbed down for the console clowns". I'm pretty much waiting for the modders to add these kind of options and give us an "alternative start" mod like in Skyrim.

Lol, metacritic.

Played about 90 hours already. :) I really liked the main story, and it's fun to just wander.

fyi if you do the muinet man missions you can effectively enslave the local population into operating an obscene amount of artillery for you,
help enough people and set up the supply lines and you can have artillery on call olmost every where on the map.

these are the "good guys" lol

Not only that but by that time modders will have the tools to massively improve on the game, that way you won't spoil it by "having to" play the standard game.

Yeah but those are just retextures and toying with stats, for the most part. They can't really dissect the game and change stuff till the creation kit is released.

I just don't get where people are saying the graphics are bad? Are they blind? It looks great. Some of the most realistic environment effects I've ever seen on an unmodded game. It's gorgeous...for a wasteland lol

I think most of the complaints are coming from the fact that the engine the game uses is essentially the same as the one used for Fallout 3 / NV (I believe)
