Hey guys

I been playing eve since late August and so far i been enjoying everything the game has to offer. It is the most complex game i have ever stumbled upon and i always wondered to myself, why havent i started earlier?! There is soo much content in this game its ridiculous! (in a good way) no other game can match its quality.

I began the game as a simple miner, however after a while i realised mining isnt something i wanted to do anymore, the isk i made isnt great and above all, paying to play a game just to mine? Not my cup of tea :P
Eventually i started to get better at the games mechanics and during this time i started to experiment, from pvp to pve and good ol exploration. First time i ever dueled someone was at Jita and thats when i realised that you lose your ship even in duels.. pod was destroyed and my clone was 30 jumps away.. good times

Afterwards i joined a industry based corporation with decent folks, learned more about the game itself while trying my best not to fall for common noobie mistakes. The only disclaimer they never mentioned is that the corp is heavily wardecced.. and i mean heavily :)
Never understood how the wardec mechanics work until i lost my ship outside jita :( after that i came to an understanding that Highsec isnt really that safe as advertised :P
For nearly 2 months i had to deal with the biggest mercs out there, it was scary at first because these guys dont mess around.. they fly the best ships in the game, and i did try my best to defeat them when isee them camping at gates..never ever managed to take them down or even scratch their shields, and after losing my ships many times i get the usual uninstall eve mails or go back to playing hello kitty island adventures, all fun and games.

Eventually i did leave my corp because industry isnt really my thing, said my goodbyes and we still keep in contact. So i roamed solo again for a while deciding what i really wanted to do, and that is PvP. Fighting another pilot gets your heart pumping win or lose, and its a great feeling. Only problem is that i suck at pvp, and most pvp corps require a huge amount of skillpoints for new recruits, which i completely understand because having a noob in a major pvp corp can be a liability. But at the same time im trying my best to perform pvp activities so i can be useful to corps, but im getting my ass kicked all the time and having private convos with my enemies telling me the same repetitive phrases again and again.. *uninstall newb* Lol

I dont hold grudges with people that are better than me ingame nor do i start unnecessary drama that goes in circles. But at this point i just dont know what i should do. I want to be better at pvp and i really really wish i had an idea how to win. seeing enemies with super expensive ships almost crushed my spirit in pvp many many times but i aint giving up just yet. I have thought about joining a nullsec/lowsec corp and i looked at their advertisements ingame and in forums, only problem again is the skillpoint requirements.

Im not asking for an easier experience. im very happy with how things are going in EVE and i certainly dont want any of it changed because of new players like me, its the reason im subscribed in the first place :) If i have to lose my favourite ship 1 billion times just to get ONE good kill. ill gladly do it.

Can anyone help me out with useful information to get me started in pvp? Apologies if this sounded like a rant because it kinda is... i dont have friends that play eve unfortunately and i been quiet about this for a long time. I like my missiles and drones, and i want to use them to vaporise enemy ships :)

Thanks!

Great post! May I suggest you get your feet wet in RvB? Its a hi-sec war but has ongoing, continuous PvP. There you can learn to fight in fleet and also experiment with fittings. You could also try some of the null intro corps (Brave Newbies, Northern Army).

I wish you all the best and continued success!

In Eve, ambition is worth more than any amount of SP. Not to mention you get those over time anyways.

In general though, you can try a sponge of a corp like "Pandemic Horde Inc." (talent or ambition will be noticed), or plainly explain your goals to any recruiter of a corp that seems attractive to you.

Do you really get mails asking you to uninstall the game? Never heard of that. Also appears to be quite counter-productive. Especially since you are trying to fight back. I would expect the pirates to teach you a little bit and help with your fits after a fight.

I'm about to quote an old Reddit post that has some out-of-date information in it, but you may find the idea valuable. If PvP is your thing, I suggest considering using public PvP fleets as a way to meet other people with a similar interest. There are a number of them out there, advertised both on these forums and in other forums like Reddit.

This won't necessarily lead you straight to a new corp, but you will have opportunities to meet people who are at various skill levels in relation to PvP, which can lead to learning opportunities and chances to team up.

Here's the old post

I suggest you get in touch with Eve University as they do guided exercises and teach you fundamentals about anything you wish and how to "win". If you're ready you can duke it out with Red vs Blue in faction warfare. Then step it up to lowsec or null. There's lots of corps that will pick you up right away. You have much to do.

And ignore the local trolls, people can be serious assholes but don't let that deter you.

Hate to rain on your parade, but RvB announced they were going out of business a few weeks ago. Only an inactive shell of their organization remains.

OP, join Horde. Open recruitment, no SP limits, mentoring and support, and more PvP than you can stand. We can get you in PvP fleets in a useful role on day 1.

Congratulations on deciding to try out the PVP aspect of EVE OP.

Looks like most have recommended either high sec or null sec pvp, so I'd like to recommend Faction Warfare in low sec instead.

Here's a list of pros and cons so you'll know what you're getting yourself into:

Pros:

Capturing or defending complexes (aka. plexing), rewards you with loyalty points that can be exchanged for items to be sold on the market. This makes FW sustainable and a good source of income once you get used to it.

Fighting in the warzone emphasizes small ship combat (Frigates, Destroyers, Cruisers, etc.), so is more accessible for a new player sp and isk-wise.

The warzone caters to solo pvp'ers, small gang roams, and large fleets, so there's something for everyone.

Most people in the warzone are there to fight (or sometimes farm, but they're fair game as well), so it's fairly easy to get a fight.

The plexing mechanic is not only a source of income, but provides a hotbed for fights as well, both from enemy militia pilots and neutral pirates.

The various fw corps frequently band together and host public fleets that anyone can join in.

Cons:

Fighting in FW will destroy your standings with the enemy faction. You can repair them eventually, but most players commit a character to FW.

Engaging neutral pirates first lowers your sec status. Since you always want to engage on your own terms, you'll most likely have low sec status, though it's easier to repair than faction standings.

Any enemy militia pilot can engage you anywhere, so it's usually advisable to have a hauler alt in an npc corp.

That's off the top of my head. If you're interested, send me an eve mail and I can help you with your questions.

Not a rant. Cry for help? (juuuuust kidding). As you will see there are corps dedicated to getting folks started in a good direction with EVE combat. Let one take you in and good luck in your development as a first-rate combat pilot.

There just isn't anything that can be said!

This is the main difference between the old pirates of Eve and the new batch of the last few years. Fewer and fewer are helping you even after beating you and more and more kicking while down crowd is emerging. Its a sad reality but one that does play out in RL as well.

It used to be if anyone even remotely fought back it was like hey!! How are you? Wanna join us and learn to fight?! These days its just elicit tears and hope to goad your enemy into crying so you can show it to others as a badge of victory.

@OP Good luck I love your attitude youll go places in Eve, welcome to the madhouse!! Twisted

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

Those who send you emails aren't good at PVP, they're just wanna-be's, only able to win against newbies, and only if they have a better ship.

If you want some revenge, give them the same treatment; clearly they care about their image and want to boost it with easy kills, so this should be much more effective on them than it was on you:

- you have their emails, thus you have their character names
- look up their PVP activity on the various public killboards
- and send them "you should uninstall eve noob" in-game mails whenever they die in PVP

You can even do it as an entertainment activity while at work, or when you're not playing, because it's possible to send in-game mails from the forums (if you're logged in).

EDIT: As far as PVP advice, I'm not a PVP'er, but:

- EVE is a team game, so finding a good group to PVP with is important. FW should get you started, but treat it as "getting started", because your goal should be finding a good group of players (by PVP'ing until you find them).

- the ships are designed to have huge vulnerabilities (there is no solopwnmobile), which is why you need to be in a group.

First of all welcome and congrats on a nice post. While I don't have a good suggestion for a pvp corp (there are many kinds out there and you should see for yourself the kind of pvp you find fun), two things caught my eye:

This sounds very weird to me since I've never heard of people first destroying a ship and telling the opponent these kinds of things without provocation. In fact, these statements usually come to someone trolling, shedding tears or to someone who is in an awful killboard efficiency whoring corp.

If these statements keep on coming without a reasonable provocation, ignore them. Plain and simple.

If there is an "elite" pvp corp out there (one you're thinking of joining) that thinks like this, run. Run far away and don't look back.

Okay so first off, Asides from a few ships being completely overpowered in what they do, Orthrus Gila Svipul, there are no 'best' ships in the game. EVE is very Rock, Paper, Scissors. So getting know what ships do, and how they work is very important. Like,

What type of weapons does it X ships, what kind of range should I expect from that ship, and how much DPS is this ship capable of with these weapons. Like a Thorax will be blaster fit, and tend to have a lot of damage close range, where as a Hurricane could have Arties and do a lot of Alpha damage (Damage per cycle but the cycle) But suck at tracking close range, Or somewhere inbetween like Pulse loaded with Scorch.

Does this ship have an utility High slot, Like most mini ships do, but Gal ships won't barring a few (Mega Navy) Or is this ship commonly fit with neuts, like a VNI, Ishtar, Curse and so on.

Is this ship Armor, shield or Hull tanked? Active or Passive? The Thorax would be active, and a Moa could be passive. There are some strange ships that are generally ment to be passive tanked, but do well with active, like the sacrilege.

What kind of Range Dictation does this ship have? Like the Ashi would have great range control due to extend web ranges, or a Moa wouldn't due it's slow speed and being a shield tanking ship.

So basically what I'm saying is, Don't think of people flying better ships than you. They are flying a Rock, and all you need to do is bring paper. And guess what? They think your a newb. I bet you they won't expect a newb start kitting their pimp fit demios.

If you willing to give me the names of these fuckwits, I can gladly try my hand at them. These people are just overall trash. I see nothing wrong in popping a new bro. But racket like that is annoying.

Good on you though for being brave enough to go and trying things out yourself. Most people need their hand held the entire way.

Sadly you've probably started a threadnaught by posting this. Nothing against you, but the trolls on the forum tend to flock like crows to these.

Anyways if you have any questions, feel free to mail me. And I'll be glad to help you out. ^.^

Also if you looking for a place to chill, Try The Devils Warriors Alliance, They do Highsec Wardecs, but absolutely love teaching and helping out the new guys.

eve online combat pvp, according to statistics, is currently inaccessible to characters below 50 million skill points.

You just have to give it a few years (or a hundred bucks would do as well, if you don't mind the name change).

This is the kind of "suggestion" that isn't warranted. It is clearly not true and possible for anyone to pvp as long as they can learn the basics and not give up. Maybe you just suck at. I know I do but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying it. OP will, at least in a few months, probably be decent if he sticks with it. His style of pvp may not match yours.

There are players that are good at PvP, but have a ****** altitude. I know one very arrogant and hubristic. This kind of behavior doesnt deserve a praise anywhere. ****** people can be good at PvP too, but they are still a ****** people.
