daily downtime 2h earlier?

aloah,

i came to notice that the dt is held everyday when the usercount starts to noticably increase again after "sleeping hours".
at least any "users-online-praph" shows that this is the case...
at any rate, wouldnt it make more sense to move the daily downtime to a time- window about 2-3h earlier, when usercount reached its bottom?

i and a considerable number of my corp mates are directly affected by the downtime virtually every day, and id really like to see maintainance been done at a time where the LEAST number of users is affected.
and quite frankly, 1pm central european time is a very poor choice...

as a sidenote: the search option didnt bring up any similar results, so yes even tho im pretty sure there are allready several topics regarding this out there, i still open up a new one. ;)

DT is set up the way it is as that is the time they deem it most optimal for them, the Devs, to do it.

Residual effects and collateral damage take the back seat to this.

well thats the way it SHOULD be.
unfortunatly this is not the case.
this is allso the exact reason for me to suggest a dt 2-3h earlier, wich would in fact BE the time the fewest number of players is affected.
a quick look at the graph will make it clear...

and again, large portion of my corpmates coming back online, and WHAZAM downtime.
1pm cet is a very, very poor time to take the servers down.

As the good emperor said. 11.00 is the time the devs have deemed most appropriate for the daily downtime.

Not mutch that can be done about it.

Besides they have managed to crunch that daily downtime to around 30 minutes more or less, an acceptable waiting time imo

The ships hung in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't.

numbers rarely ever lie, and if i look at sayd numbers, i see that the dt accours when folx start to cramp the servers again.
now taking the servers down while the usercount is increasing (by about roughly 10% compared to the actual time when the fewest users are ingame), for sure isnt the time of the day where the "fewest number of players" is affected(devs choice or not), hence that is allready 10% MORE players than actually nessesary.

yes the devs chose 11am eve time. is this a "good" choice looking at the numbers?
no it isnt...

and is this something that CANT be changed?
no it aint either...

As others have said: pure numbers is not the only thing to take into account (which you keep ignoring).

It's a compromise between least players affected and convenience for Devs in Iceland and in London. And that compromise happens to be 11.00 GMT.

Moving the DT 2-3 hrs would mean Devs in Iceland have no time to prepare stuff before DT hits first thing when arriving in the office.

I do understand Australians beeing upset about DT, because it's their Primetime. But I can not understand you complaining about 1 PM. Shouldn't you and your corpies be at work or in school or something?

Plus, DT is only 30 mins, often less.

Is the time a good compromise? Yes.
Is it something that can't be changed? No.
Should it be changed? For the above reasons: No.

I don't think its ever going to change. I also see no reason for the change. I know that If I was one of the people taking down the servers I would not want to show up to work and flip the off switch to make changes. I would want time to prepare and discuss what to do before it went down. -1 for the idea.

Remember that during a downtime the devs are working on things and need to be there incase anything goes wrong.

If they do it at 9am when they get to work it will be a nightmare to sort anything out, the first hour of any job is always a warm up....

letz look at the last weekend, just to throw in some numbers:
saturday: increase in online users of 25% (!) during the last 2 hours before the dt.
friday: see above, but "only" 20% increase...

taking down the servers at the exact time a huge number of players is trying to get online is a total no-go.
ive been working in customer service for long enough to know that working-hours are dictated by user demand, instead of some nine-to-five job wishful thinking.

Downtime is at 7AM here, works out well.

The whole argument will revolve around who lives where. However, the reality is that there are people doing their jobs in Iceland/ the U.K. somewhere doing this work, and it needs to be done during their normal business hours. Of course, downtime doesn't affect me much at all, so it's easy to vote to maintain the status quo... dang, fell into my own trap.

This thread, like every other thread on this subject basically boils down to:

"Downtime is inconvenient for me. Change it." normally followed by some random justification designed to benefit the specific group of people the OP belongs to.

However, your inconvenience is secondary to it being convenient for the CCP employees who are responsible for the servers, etc. Deal with it or go play another game.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

I would be one of those people who would like to see a different downtime as well, merely because in Faction War all of the plexes are reset at DT and only those who are awake at that ungodly hour can do anything about them.

However, I'm not complaining or anything, :P I understand that it is that way for a reason. But in an ideal New Eden, I'd like it to be different too.

In an ideal New Eden, there would be no need for downtime except on patch days.

Try living in Australia.

The DT as it has been said was not put in place to be done a the least convenient time for the the player base but for the most convenient time for the Devs. It gives them a couple of hours in the morning to get things going and then it gives them a few hours in the afternoon to fix any problems that occurred after the DT. Plus for large sections of their player base (the US or people in Europe who work 9-5 jobs) it has absolutely no affect on them. For Euro's on the weekend it just means that they can quickly go grab food and a drink in the middle of their play time and not lose out on actually game play.

Get off the dole and get a job that way you won't notice the DT if you are GMT+1 :-P

If you were to move it either way it would mean that someone would be annoyed. Plus they aren't going to change it so stop whining. Everything you have said has been said before, this is not new.

In an ideal New Eden; there would be balance, no DT, a better UI, solo/small gang PvP, no blob warfare, ship spinning, Incarna wouldn't be pointless and monocles wouldn't cost the earth. But its not ideal so either live with it or stop playing...
