Hey there.
I have a little idea that is so simple, I think everyone would Love it !.

As most of us know by now, Always keep your Local chat window OPEN,
So that you can keep an eye on who is In system with you.
However, having this chat window open can sometimes take up a lot of
Screen space.

The Idea I had was to Add an option in the chat window settings to allow
Us to disable the text portion of the window.
This would make it so that you could just have the list of pilot names shown as your Local window.
After all, wouldn't that be better than doing what a Lot of us do and making the
Chat section of the local window as thin as possible so that we only see the names anyway?.

I know this idea isn't a big game changer, but if you like the sound of it,
Please give this post a +1 and leave a comment too plz.
Let's try and get CCP to implement this with the next patch :)

I would be shocked if the usual denizens of the forums aren't already headed toward you with torches and pitchforks for suggesting anything with local but it's absolute removal.

It seems inoffensive to me, but we shall see.

Removing local is a bad idea for k-space, not having it makes w-space special :P

However if you allow people to only see pilots in their system, it is in fact another advantage for the hunted to escape hunters, if you do this you also have to reconsider when and how somebody shows up in local (simplify UI = easier to keep track of it = better responsetimes)

So when doing this, you also need to consider a delay OR at least make sure that you aint showing up in local as long as you have gatecloak (yes i HATE that i jump into a system, have to wait 4-5 seconds before grid is loaded und allready beeing in local visible for everyone), it's also lore-friendly \o/

I dont mind either way when it comes to the op's proposal. Doesn't add nor takeaway anything from the features use for intel.

I just dropped by to mention there is many more things than local that make j-space different to k-space.

Remove local.

EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

as far as I'm concerned this is a QoL proposal whilst we wait for a proper rework of local.

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.

He isn't asking for local to be removed from K-space, just remove the chat window but keep the player listing still visible so you can have more space available for other things,

Which honestly isn't a horrible idea. I like it.

Sounds to me like a botters dream. Making it more compact with all the same standings info allows for bot scanning of local in more crowded systems.

It's interesting that your idea cuts through all the normal crap and asks that local chat remove the chat function and just display the free intel part. Most folks have the decency to at least attempt to diguise the free intel as a chat channel.

Participation in local chat should be by permission only. I'm a space pilot darnit - I have rights.... rights to privacy!

Abolish local - chat channels should be player made only. This is a sand box! Let the players control which channels they are or are not in.

As to the idea, I have my eco friendly passive lightshow torch and plasic Halloween pitchfork always at the ready.
Walla walla walla walla rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb (noises extras make on some old films).

Local stays, but with wh ish features. An opt in checkbox w/o having to chat. You could announced yourself, or not.

Just to be clear: no

It is already by permission, you grant permission to be included in the local chat when you log into any space but a worm hole.Lol

Not sure how I feel about the OP I can see both sides of the argument.

Now to local as a general in the various areas of space.

Local needs to stay as is in high sec since it is the only intel tool currently available and like my comment above you consent to being in local when you log into or jump into a high sec system.

Local in worm hole space seems to be about right based on my limited experiences.

Low sec I am not sure about, the idea of a delayed local has appeal, but even there for many local is the only real intel tool available to them so I think it needs to stay in some form.

Not going to pretend I know how it should work in nul sec, however tying it to a structure perhaps with all information about your corp / alliance members instantly available and very limited information on the rest seems like it would be a good basic place to start.
