Would you keep playing EvE if CCP some how lost all your player data?

Like a full loss of everything no backups at all, every one has to start from a newly created player?

Would you? Or would you move on?

It won't happen, but personally I like the idea. All accounts got deleted in some freak accident and everyone had to start from the beginning with nothing. Not just in EVE but every online game. Like Y2K of online gaming :)

If they would lose my data, yes I would start over and continue playing.
If they would lose everyone's data the game would not survive.

Luckily for us, this question is entirely hypothetical. Smile

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

I wouldnt. Markus Reese is a long developed character with which the history and time earned development is a very retaining feature. I doubt I could enjoy eve even remotely as much.

Agreed.

I wouldn't spend another +7 years just to get back up to where my character is now.

Definitely not, but in my case it maybe irrelevant anyway.

I would. But, to me, that's like asking, "If you had a way to reverse time and go back to being a kid, would you?" Who the hell wouldn't, especially knowing what you know now. Kind of a loaded question, just not in a bad way. Something else, too, is that not one time in the nearly 6 years I've been playing this game have I had an ultimate end-game goal. The fun part's been playing the game, so not much would change for me I think. Sure, it might be a little rough at first isk-wise, but I made it this far once so no reason to suspect I couldn't do it again in another 6 years. Hell, might even make it back to where I'm at now sooner.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

a very similar thought crossed my mind this morning 'what if eve had a hard reset' I came to the conclusion that i would try to start over and play from the beginning, but i think waiting all over to fly some of my favourite ships might end up killing me off in the end.

Though that brief window of actually equal footing would be damned interesting.

Probably not. On one hand it would be interesting to see, but a lot of it seems like it would just be annoying.

After 12 years theres no way Id do it. Having to wait for content again? Yeah no. Equal footing? Yeah no. Everyone with experience still has it over anyone else, everyone with friends and organizational chains has that still over everyone else. Its not the idea of whoring stuff or isk again, its the raw wait times for the skills to do stuff thatd drive me batty. Having gone through it enough yeah no thatd be worse than watching grass grow and everytime u go to sleep someone would cut it on you.

The first time you do it your not waiting for something you know of. Every other time you now know exactly what your waiting for, the pleasure and joy of the unknown is gone from it. Its like waiting for Christmas or a Bday when you know everything your getting and its the same as it was every other year for a decade or more. Yeah its not fun at all.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

Very well put, it is exactly what I meant by "annoying" I respect being a newb and progressing through content while you train. However waiting to do things you've already done doesn't really make for interesting game play imo.

that said the race to collect the blue prints, set up moon mining ops, farm faction/deadspace gear would be insane to watch, but the other question is who would be around to go on it?

I would at least play in the new beginning. If nothing else as to see the chaos in the starting systems with the whole eve population in them trying to make the tutorial because you get some good stuff fast.
And the rebuilding of the industrial infrastructure. SOOO much profit!
At least i would have something usefull to put in the skill queue.

But the more important question ist: What would you do if CCP sayed after a month or two "Hey guys found a copy of the database under the couch, everything back to normal."

Any sandbox that still has sand can be used to make (and destroy) castles.

Data isn't what let's you have fun. It's how you choose to do things and the people you know.

And all that leadership, content, knowledge and ability would also be gone. Noobs think itd be glorious if the old guard would be gone, just like we wish to be in control... of our lives, our jobs, etc, yet to anyone thats been in that circumstance when those you realize you depended on for ideas, stuff, knowledge, advice, etc disappear your lost and you realize just how tough it was without them in your life. Same thing in game. Eve is as much the same as RL in that regard as any game Ive had the opportunity of playing. You think youll be the be all and end all and you realize how lonely and boring it really is.
