Stealthy Bug Fixes?

Like a lot of Mac players I experienced and grumbled at all the bugs in the Mac Client, the crashing In Game Browser, the freezes when opening the Market and Contracts windows, the Prolonged black screen at undock, etc. I was also kind of annoyed that the graphics on the Mac Client were not at pretty as they are on Windows, with the high shader setting removed and Anti-Aliasing disabled. Also had the missing ship outline bug.

Well, today I decided to give the new Launcher beta another try. As it was updating itself the Launcher said it was update in Cider files. The updates complete and the client launches promptly. I immediately grumble that it has switched me back to full screen, when I have always played in windowed mode. I go to the graphics setting to correct this and I find that the Shaders can now be set to high and Anti-Aliasing has been enabled up to Medium level. My cloaked ship had its outline again in space, and some of the nifty spacewarp effects from the Windows version are now implemented on the Mac (minus the trippy but pretty effect in the middle of stargates). Additionally the In Game Browser hasn’t crashed yet.

I relaunched the game using the old Launcher and the new settings and effects are still there. So it seems CCP did fix a few bugs and turn on some missing features, it’s just that they didn’t tell anyone, because I haven’t seen any mention of it on the forums or the blogs.

High five on these fixes, CCP. Could have used a bit of a heads up, though Blink

I just had to hop on and check it was on TQ and not just Sisi. And it is. Well thanks for getting us high shader settings back and a work around for the cloak bug. BUT WHY DIDN"T YOU TELL US?

I mean thank you! But yea, can you please talk to the mac community about this stuff already?

Hi guys, we're working on an update for Cider for the upcoming release which would include these changes, but we haven't deployed that to anything other than test servers so far. Could I ask you both to do the following?

1. Launch TQ.
2. Get past Character Select.
3. Press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+M to open Resource Monitor.
4. Log the Cider version number displayed underneath "Resource Cache Usage" at the top right of the window (should be Cider: 10474).
5. Report Cider version here.

All right, here's what I got going on. My TQ cider version is 10474 (just like it should be). I have all shadder settings available and all ant-aliasing setting available (just tested it again too but I played with them on all last night and could see the difference). Last night I told an alliance mate about it and he could do the same thing.

My Sisi version is 10805. Is it possible the Sisi version can effect the TQ version once you use Sisi? New launcher related?

I don't know how to explain any of this but it's working on TQ. Interesting note too was I just got a mail in game (TQ) with a web link and clicked it just to see what would happen and the client froze as normal, BUT when I opened up activity monitor to shut down Eve and the Wineserver process, the Wineserver process shut down automatically after I force shutdown Eve. This is also new behavior since before you had to shut down both separately to relaunch the Eve client.

Also, what changes are on SIsi? If the new version is there do you guys want feedback or not? Let us know what to look for and you know.. we can help test on the test server.

Cider version I have 10474

I should have mentioned in my OP that I was playing with the Launcher beta to log onto Sisi for ***** and giggles. After the Launcher beta completed updating, the client froze on the character screen after I viewed the settings. I force quit the client, shrugged, and logged into TQ via the old launcher, where The new settings have remained functional on TQ ever since.

Please don’t take them away, I like the shiny new (to the mac version) graphics. Sad

Yeah, we won´t be taking them away. What happened is this: The new launcher pulled the config files for the Cider release that we have up on Sisi. These are actually global for any EVE client installed on your machine, so you´re running with a config file for the newest version of Cider, but without the Cider engine behind it. This, while unintended, should be OK. It might cause your EVE client to be more unstable if you are running with nVidia hardware and using Antialiasing until we get the engine to you in a couple of weeks.

TQ cider version 10474.

I too can turn on anti-aliasing. But it does not actually do any anti-aliasing.
