Where Runescape went wrong

Most of you know what Runescape is - the largest MMO-RPG with millions of accounts made. I'm a veteran player from 2008, and I must say that Runescape nowadays has disappointed me.

You see, Runescape had it's own style and flavour, just like EVE. The visuals, the animations, the text dialogue, that's what made it unique. However, in the last couple of years something terrible came upon the game. The Evolution of Combat (EoC) and along with it, a major graphical overhaul. A bad graphical overhaul.
Runescape had it's own turn-based combat system, which was pretty fun to play with (that's what brought me to the game). EoC changed that and turned it into a generic MMO mana/ability bar with a bunch of buttons to spam to use special abilities and inflict more damage. If I wanted to play something like that I would've gone for LoL.
And it doesn't stop here. The overhaul literally makes the game look like it's something out of World of Warcraft. The original visuals were so damn nice, but Jagex (Dev company) had to go full ****** and copy paste literally every effin' generic fantasy game.

Oh, and did I also mention the horrible UI? The old interface was nice and simple to use. The new one is now filled with a huge load of buttons that are always flashing. It took me 5 minutes just to find the friend's list.
And unlike EVE, the microtransactions in RS don't work. And in EVE, they DON'T SCREAM AT YOU TO GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! Literally, the amount of micros in Runescape shows how money-hungry Jagex is. I mean, in EVE we have those (e.g. PLEX or AUR), but at least those are not too OP. In "Solomon's Store", you can get a lot of overpowered gear if you pay up.

EVE had it's share of bad moments (Incarna, fozziesov), but in general it's still headed in the right direction. Runescape has been completely derailed and turned into a s**t WoW-copy. No matter the community is now split in half between the Old School (2007 servers) and the actual RS.

If Runescape goes into a rapid decline, I hope that it serves as a warning to CCP to watch out for things like Fozzie SOV where they tried to remove complexity but did it at the expense of depth, there by dumbing it down.

Not even once

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

Finally, someone with a bit of common sense.
I'm also a RS veteran from 2001 (yes, I have party hats). On the actual RS3 I have every sort of armour, weapon and collectibles you could imagine. However, EoC totally f*cked things up for me and made the game look like something straight out of a fantasy comic.
No matter I switched to Old School (level 18 at the moment), I just couldn't stand the steaming pile of horse sh*t that Runescape 3 is now.

And as mentioned above, I really do think that EVE should take this as a warning - tampering with the core elements that form a game can change it radically, and most of the time not in a good way.

I never understood the hype of Runescape. I played from 2002 to 2004, and I thought the missions were confusing, the combat mechanics were terrible, and the chatting system was horses... ,however I loved the music and how open worlded it was and the overall mystery. I played till I had mithril armor then quit.

Different strokes and folks.
I think CCP could do with studying us. Find out what really makes their client base tick and cater to that.
