hi,
i just want to share some strange experience. I was doing mission in high sec then found a lot of asteroids are available for mining ( mission was in normal space). Then i changed guns with mining lasers and went on digging business. Almost immediatelly i got attacked by 3 pirate ships which appeared from nowhere. I ran away and meanwhile noticed that i got aggression timer on. On mouseover said "your crimes: Archangel 14 min 30 sec"... I wonder:

1. Why pirates appeared?
2. why i got aggression timer, while i never shoot at them?

1. probably late spawn
2. dont worry aggresion against NPC means nothing..
2.a well maybe at the NPC owned stuctures such as stations you wont be able to dock while holding aggresion timer against them /*not sure tho.

Occasionally missions like these (ESPECIALLY non-deadspace ones that have no gates) will spawn rats that are pretty much belt rats.

I've seen this before in The Blockade L3 as the L3 version actually has quite the decent mini roid belt in it.

As for the aggression this is normal for belt rats...

Many mission asteroids will trigger rats upon mining....and of course you get an aggression timer. They don't like you.

Mining lasers spawn belt rats since 2004. The spawn will not check if you are in a belt or not. A long long time ago there was something called "hidden belt" that was not a belt that was hidden. To spawn NPCs in the right spot they had to be spawned by activation of mining lasers. It's chance based and the chance per activation is fairly low.

Thanks for replies. I'm new in EVE, so that was not clear for me. I thought pirates appear only in ordinary asteroid belts.

Anyway although aggression timer i was able to dock, jump to other systems and fly happily nearby CONCORD battleships. I got no standing change towards any faction. Nor my security was altered.

Wait, its the activation of a mining laser that triggers the rats to spawn? Is this why I sometimes see belt rats at high sec stations, because someone activated a mining laser at the station?

No, belt rats and gate rats can be spawned or moved by a warp exits. Funnily they know where you exit even before you left grid.

You're mixing up Aggression Countdown (yellow) with Global Criminal Countdown or GCC (red).

Rememer; if it's yellow, you can be mellow. If it's red, you're ******* dead.
