I am slightly confused about the size of my shared cache folder.


I have the client downloaded, and the shared cache folder is 19GB.

The beta launcher has created new folders for 'tq', 'duality' and 'SISI'.

To make sure all the res file were there, I ran the rescache.exe in the 'tq' folder, and it came up saying;

Verified 62959 files;
0 files corrupt
55743 files not yet downloaded

So it is now in the process of downloading 7.5GB of files.

This will make a total of 26.5GB


is this size correct? or have I messed something up once again

you must never have checked the "download all files" from the old launcher

new launcher will now copy only the binary in each sisi, tq, duality folders, that's 180MB each approx

and the cache folder with all game resources once cleaned up and tied up after your rescache should be around 20GB


I think you have partial files (that's pure supposition here). I did a clean install recently, downloaded all the data files, switched to beta launcher and played TQ and SISI, I'm at 20GB and rescache is not downloading anything more
maybe you are redownloading files or 'allocated' ones (empty but taking space)

or maybe there are obsolete files? (hence doing a clean install once in a while may help)


as for file size, nowaday a game is heavy, console get 1 TB drives, GTA V HD is 65GB, a skyrim modded is over 40GB, lol even diablo3 from 2012 is 20GB

bigger game = bigger texture and detailed object = nicer to look at, and it is good

let us know when your rescache finish, what is your size, because size matters

rescache.exe just finished.

Resfiles folder is now 29.7 GB

when you do a "right clic, properties" it counts the files, whats your file count?

my SharedCache folder show a bit more than the 62000 files that were scanned (76 737 in the ResFile subfolder)

I just launched a rescache to be sure : it says 62959 files to scan and downloaded 0. and it is 20GB approx, not 29.

if you have more files, maybe a clean install will reduce this size (I did a clean install in september, maybe that's due to some patches and obsolete files not being deleted? )


2 things to tests, I'm going to run "repair" tool from the old launcher, maybe it has a cleaning function.
The other thing if to test is simple renaming the "Resfile" subfolder and relaunch Rescache
this should force a full downlod (but some gm may be frowning on this) but if it does not work, clean install, or simply rename the folder back


and whlle writing here the repair tools finished, it's not what I thought : it only fixes binaries, not shared cache.

as i'm at work with no way to play I'm renaming my resfile folder and launching rescache, if i can slim down 14.000 files and get under 20GB I wouldn't mind


if this cleans things up, maybe CCP should include a delete function in the patching system

so I guess the game should be 12.11 GB and not 20 or 29 !

and stoooop, don't play with the folders... there is a cleaner way :

in the cogwheel/setting of the beta launcher go in the "general tab" clic "Shared Cache Settings" and clic "verify"

I think it's meant to replace rescache, and is detecting the extra files

not really the expected result, but down under 16GB, maybe sisi+duality extra files (it says "combined index")


i'll play again later with the folder swapping and see if the results are the same, curiosity will kill me someday

adventures in shared cache folder chapter 72, stardate 201511.19, updating captain's log

after renaming and rescache, I got a nice 12.2GB folder

I open beta laucher and select SISI, I got a 800MB additional

if I run "verifiy" from the graphic tools in beta launcher I get a strange numbe "combined" but real size and numbers here : http://i.imgur.com/7ovMrY1.png


so final size is 13GB

I'm trying to launch duality too, but it does goes up to 16GB (it adds 80MB)


conclusion the graphic tool do some clean up, but maybe not enough.
renaming the folder and redownloading with rescache maybe cleaning too much

reinstall has not been tested (and I don't want to)

that could be a good base for a ticket to support
