Pirate Marauders?

I've an alt training into a rattlesnake... and as I'm putting "Gallente Battleship V" and "Caldari Battleship V" at the end of his queue, I find myself wondering about the value of actually training these two skills up to 5... while they do open (with a whole bunch of additional training) each individual race's marauders, well... for that particular character, they won't allow access to anything new, really. He's so specifically trained into sentries + cruises that with the Golem all (most) of his drone training goes to waste, while with the Kronos all of his missile training goes to waste.

Are there any chances that the Guristas have figured out how to make a marauder by now? ...or any other of the pirate factions, for that matter? Due to the hybrid of skills required to fly/use those ships effectively, it'd be nice for the series of ships not to end there with the basic T1's!

Guristas Marauder....Resist bonus before Bastion, 4 damage bonused launchers + 1 drone that does the damage of 10 + drone tracking and velocity bonus + 8 mid + 6 lows. *creams pants*

It should probably also be able to use one of those new DD's everyone's talking about, plus bastion, plus fighters. It's only fair.

Now, real talk, do you guys think it should also have the 70% cool down for MJD's? That seems a little much to me.

For just the rattlesnake the caldari BS5 is probably not worth it. The Gallente BS5 might be worth it for the extra 10% dps on missiles (kin and therm). Also this will improve Vindicators if you ever feel like flying those as well as Machariel's increased falloff range. Machs are the best mission running ship atm though I'd look at Minmatar BS5 first before Gall.

Training those 2 skills to V, may also open up the Black Ops from the perspective races. They used to be required for the racial capitals, but I think that is changed now. (too lazy to look right now)

What's more valuable, imo, is that they allow you to get max benefit from other hulls

BS V is definitely not a waste of time

Truth be told, the actual question ought to be, "When should I drop a month of training just for BS5," rather than simply, "Should I drop a month of training just for BS5?" Is it worth it? Yep. Is it worth it right now? That's where things get interesting.

Eventually, you will start picking some skills to train on more and more because you simply have not maxed them out yet and less and less for the reasoning that they are more critical than others. That eventuality is, I'll admit, a long ways off for newer players, but even a player like me can see that happening at some point and likely already has for others.

Yeah, though as Anize pointed out, Marauders are likely the only platform where they work to some extent -- Marauders can actually still tank somewhat with nullified resist and the extra range from Bastion sort of makes up for the lower range Polarized guns usually have. Maybe bombers too since they typically go all gank anyways, though maybe not given their rather exotic price, might as well argue for faction launchers at that point. Only other place I could see it is maybe to blap abandoned POS's in High Sec if you know no one will come running to save it. They are pretty niche, even gimmicky, but they do pack a mean wallop in the right circumstances. Trouble is finding said "right circumstances".

Personally I don't like them that much either, the resist nerf shoehorns them into far too few places where conventional weapons still work fine enough without the nerf anyways.
