To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade, that is the question.

Hello fellow Eve'rs! I am posting this topic in hopes some techy folks can help shed some light on my current PC rig. My current rig has been great. Nothing has ever failed on this machine; and, the only component I have ever had to replace was the video card due to it falling behind the times. Anyways, here's my rig:

MOBO: ASUS GENE III
CPU: Intel i7 950 @ 3.04 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
HDD: 2x 0.5 TB @ 7200 RPM
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
Video Card: nVidia GTX 650 Ti

So far, almost everything I play, I can play at near max settings at a decent frame rate. The video card is due to be upgraded again, I know. However, I am tossing around the idea of building a replacement rig. I've looked at new components on Newegg, but cannot justify upgrading since the clock speeds are not that much faster than what I have. I know CPU speed is only part of the whole; but is there that much of a difference between what I have and current CPU's? My PC is going on 6 years old in January and I am simply curious, is it worth my money to replace it? Or, will simply upgrading the GPU and RAM be sufficient?

I used to be really in the know on building PC's. I like small form factor builds and have even considered a mini ITX build. Components are really limited, however. Anyways, I am curious to read some opinions about this.

Unless you are experiencing problems like hardware hiccups or visual artifices when playing games, I wouldn't worry about it yet.

In the meantime, you can play with numbers and think about what you want your new setup to be capable of that your current is not able to.

If you have the spare cash then a slave machine is useful.
Can offload your voice comms and browser onto it and focus your main machine on gaming.

EVE is becoming shallow and puerile; it will satisfy neither the veteran nor the "WoW" type crowd in the transition.

If you don't mind used/refurbished, EVGA has a bunch of b stock right now. They have 650 ti for 70 usd, 750 ti for 90 usd.

Honestly I would just max the ram and add SSD. A cheap 120 GB SSD is like 40 usd. Put OS on it and keep the rest on hdd. Later get gtx 950 or 960 when they show up in the b stock and the price is around 100 usd.

The really amazing thing, to me, is that EVGA b stock got 7200 gs and 8400 gs cards. I was ok with seeing 8400 gs five years ago. But now? It just begs for wtf did they find them? And the presence of 7200 gs these days just boggles the mind.

I forgot to mention that my rig is powered by 750 watt power supply. I am looking at a 4gb AMD R9 380 and the specs say 500 watts. I imagine between the CPU and new vcard, I will need to bump up the PS, too.

I just finished assembling this today. Still need to install an operating system but I do recommend the graphics card.
