5.0+ standings with all major factions?

Has anyone heard anything about CCP changing standings so you can't achieve this any more? I noted the following in Sugar's notes from the PVE roundtable discussion at Eve Vegas:

Quote:
Q: Player comments that there are not a lot of bonuses for standings
A: We want to do more with standings in the future. Things like change interactions. Maybe limit how many good standings you can have. You can't be friends with everyone. At the same time that would mean if you are good here people are hostile over there.

This followed:

Quote:
Q: Faction and Faction standing. There needs to be a more intuitive way to repair them.
A: We have to revisit the standings system in the future. It needs to be ripped out or completely redone. It is not on the list of things for right now

Sometimes I think CCP is forgetting the value of goals in video games.

it is one thing to have vision, it is something completely different to execute on that vision.

no idea what CCP is even trying to do with pve right now

Sounds like a bunch of un-researched assumptions.

The only way players can be positive with all Empire Factions is with hard work and a lot of time invested.

When I first started creating the 'Faction Standing Repair Plan', the general consensus among the Eve Online Community was that you had to pick a side between Amarr / Caldari or Gallente / Minmatar. The actual content to become positive with all Empire Factions was already available in-game, it just wasn't made public. I spent 3 months researching and testing to determine the easiest and best way to use that content and then made it public.

It's still hard work requiring a lot of time invested to achieve that goal so I don't understand why CCP Affinity thinks it's too easy to become positive with all Empire Factions. Unless she's referencing 'The Plan'.

Ugh

It will become harder. The whole idea is that there are repercussions for your actions.

This is coming from a Faction Warfare perspective where you take a faction hit when killing members of the opposing militia.

Personally, I agree with all that has been said about standings. They need to be fixed so they actually mean something besides what missions you can get, or how much of a tax break you get. They should also be hard to gain and harder to fix.

I started working towards factions standings when it was required to place a POS in high-sec. Since that time CCP has been removing reasons to have standings and I assume are likely to continue. Which I think is a mistake. Goals are a well proven reason why people stick with a video game.

To achieve the goal I have continued to work on slowly getting high faction standings across the empire - mainly via SOE arc and data tags. The standings give me the ability to refine anywhere. And it allows me to gain lvl 4 access to any corp quickly for my alts. And it will give me access to all the epic arcs.

You don't need faction standings to get access to the epic arcs. High enough standing with the NPC corp it starts with is all that is needed.

Sure, that will work but then you're only limited to that corp for high level Agents. It's much faster to gain Faction standing via Event Agents which then opens up access to high level agents in all corps within that Faction.

IMO getting positive faction standing with all 4 empires requires reasonable effort. Getting 5+ with all 4 is a lot of work.

It's a lot easier to get standing with an NPC corp (much faster too) than it is to grind faction standings.

CCP seem to be under the same delusion that in the past has effected Games Workshop, Hasbro/Wizards and quite a few PC gaming company. That is the belief that longterm difficult goals are bad for profits because they discourage new players.

Basically clever marketing types decide that if you remove all barriers to instant success you should see a huge influx of new players and even if they only stay a short time there will be a churn of other new players to follow - therefore dumb down your game remove long term goals and instantly profit.

That attitude was the reason for the failure of 4th Edition D&D. It is a corporate philosophy that ONLY works for games targeting 12 year olds who will move onto other things (like drugs/sex/etc) in a few years anyway and facebook FTP-PTW games.

Sorry but I gotta disagree with you. That was the old philosophy which was always accepted years ago as fact. Guess you haven't checked out 'The Plan' which lists all Event Agents in game that give Faction standing increase for completing their missions.

In the amount of time that you spend to gain high standing with a single corp, I can achieve high Faction standing which opens up access to all of their high level Agents.

I would not be panicking just yet:
