Paid name change

I don't know if it has been proposed before, but I think a good cash cow for CCP would be to implement a paid name change service for characters. Often, that goofy name you were so thrilled with six years ago is not as appealing to your adult self today. I think charging $10 US would be a reasonable amount and that there is probably a high demand for it.

And of course, the name change should be a permanent part of the character's employment history, viewable by anyone (especially the paranoid recruitment officers searching for corp thieves and awoxers).

Seems like it would be a useful service without any downsides. Am I missing something?

Only if the name changes remain in your API history.
Reasons are obvious.

People just don't understand.

The reason why there are no changes available for name/gender/race/bloodline is because it would be a boon for scammers and corp thieves.

You can't change your username for Gmail either. Does anyone want to complain about that?

No to name changes unless previous names are available especially via API. No need to buff corp/alliance theft.

Normally I would say no, but your suggestion to keep it part of the character? Not so much. If limited in frequency it can be paid for, not bad. Because it is still tied to character, it should still be searchable and maintain watchlists. As a symbol to portrait so can be identified as a name changed

But that's part of the magic of eve, people with silly names following other people with silly names' orders. Lots of us used a stupid silly name because we didn't think we'd stay with the game. Then we get addicted, and that silly name gets respect, or just becomes another name.

Actually its very entertaining reading the overview sometimes when sitting on a gate listening to the FC go on about how they were ridden cowboy while the significant other pistol whipped them in the nuts and slapped them in the face with a cheese cloth full of spaghetti-os. or something similar.

Use the force without consent and the court wont acquit you even if you are a card carryin', robe wearin' Jedi.

not entirely true. you can do a work around by making a new gmail account with the username you want, and then setting up a mail forward from the old one to the new one, thus changing your name.

i agree for the most part with chribba, i'd rather a service like this be free, or done because it would bennifit the game. But if it ever did come, it would cost ya money instead

Don't you offer an escrow service? Do you do that for the love, or do you get a fee? Big smile

I like my characters' names, but I know players that wish they could change theirs. If it were setup so that previous names can be viewed by anyone, I don't understand why there would be any resistance. But, this is Eve after all.....

A player is free to make a new character in EVE, too. With the API you can read all of your old character's mails without ever logging into that character. So this is possible in EVE as well.
