It is very interesting hearing your point of view Raine, I think we've suffered somewhat equivalent percentage losses but have reacted differently. I don't really have any more advice than what has already been offered - I would say that I view implants(and isk) as a means to an end, and that maybe you're setting your arbitrary goals and achievements (which is all we have in this sandbox environment) on means rather than ends. You don't need +5s to do any of the (what I consider) fun activities in the game. Skillpoints, experience, and contacts/information are the only things that really matter to me - and you can't really lose any of those.
Or to view it another way - if you were to receive an invincible, max SP character, with infinite isk - would you still play the game?

For a short time I would still play, yes, but I'm also fairly certain I'd move on quickly thereafter. Without a way to make meaningful progress, there is not much that appeals to me with almost any activity, not just EVE. That, I think, is part of my problem with ganks; recovery is not progress, it is the undoing of regression. Perhaps a subtle distinction, but one that seems to matter a great deal to me.

You suggest I am focused on means rather than ends, and I'd have to agree - though I'd phrase it another way; I am more enthralled by the journey than the destination. When my journey is waylaid, I perhaps take it harder than those who are only interested in journeying long enough to resume their enjoyment of their various destinations.

If you truely enjoy the journey, then this should be your favourite game. I suspect you may be very similar to my friend who, despite my best efforts over the last 6+ years, cannot get to grips with a sandbox environment with ZERO compulsory goals/achievements. This is not a personal attack, I think some people just don't gel with this sort of entertainment. I reckon the sort of people who enjoy Eve are the same people who probably enjoyed Lego :D

From my point of view I would argue that, in my case, being ganked is progress; sure I've lost some assets, which come and go anyway, but I've gained far more valuable knowledge and 'enjoyment factor' (for want of a better phrase). If I never lost anything there really would be no point (in my mind) of continuing to play - there is no 'end game' boss to beat or win condition to chase after.
If all your're doing is chasing after getting a head full of +5s by running level 4 missions, you will burn out, 100%. However if you got yourself a head full of +2s at other people's expense: whether that be through pirating, stealing, tricking, or outsmarting your fellow players somehow - that is a win. The reason I'm staying anonymous is that I was running my frieghter during a rather involved plan to take advantage of someones lack of insight. Instead I lost out, because I wasn't as smart or as thorough as I thought I was. Since that incident, even though I rebought the freighter and ran out my plan, I lost out again because I completely overlooked something. However I've also made ground in other areas. Its all a great big circle of fun.

The reason there is more hate on purely PvE players in this game than others, is that we all know quite a lot of pure PvE grinders won't last and won't meaningfully contribute to the rest of our enjoyment. The very best pure PvE's who have been around for ages give themselves purpose by trying to push the boundry of what is possible in terms of time/equipment - and enjoy sharing their exploits with the rest of the community.

I would ask you to give the following a go - make a new character if you don't want to upset your current social environment. Try and earn enough to buy a single +3 implant, entirely at someone elses expense: that may be taking advantage of markets, pirating, scamming, tricking, stealing, ransoming or something else you can think of. Just don't grind it out, and hand your money to someone else for them to enjoy.

I treat it more as "don't fly anything you're not comfortable with losing". I certainly have ships that I couldn't afford to replace immediately if they exploded, but I have other ships that'll do the same job, albeit not as well, or indeed other jobs, to earn me enough to be able to do so in a short time.

Good attitude to your loss btw.

This is pretty much your answer.

I'll use my ratting ships as an example. I have a primary pimp fitted BS that I use and a pimp fitted Ishtar for escalations and such. It would hurt if I lost my primary ratter but even if I managed to do so with no isk I have that Ishtar, a Gila, and a VNI I can all use as back-ups until I get back on my feet. I then have a nice small fleet of pvp ships waiting in case anyone messes with me or my friends. I could loose all of them and still be able to rebuild with ships and assets I still have hidden in Highsec even though I live in null now.

Luck favors those who are prepared.

Statistically that's not really the case. People generally don't quit over ship or asset loss.

I'd like to know where that statistic comes from. I'm not saying that I disagree, but I've personally seen many people quit over losing a bunch of stuff.

It comes from CCP. They did a presentation at Fanfest 2015.

we we decided to drop a carrier with blops got the carrier into deep structure and bum twitching moment when a ceptor landed on grid we were overheating all the things on the carrier, and then the ceptor started yellowboxing me, i was already aligned and managed to mjd.

But that didnt stop the fine ceptor pilot who managed to get a point on me soo fast, just at that moment of being pointed after the mjd...local spike, had a fleet of whatever pointing neuting, and all the other wonderful things you would do to a 2bil isk black ops battleship.

It wasnt very nice tbh, sitting watching vultures feed off your dying panther and knowing this is the end but i guess it was well played by that ceptor pilot for catching a couple of nice kills.

it doesnt matter if you can afford it or not its still a hurtful loss losing anything over 100mil

This reads pretty much like you ****** up. Bad. He shouldn't have been able to get you..
Also, 2bil blops? Please... Stop flying cheap ****..

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.
