A Newbie's First Attempt at PvP (video)

Hey folks,

Frunds here. I started playing EVE Online recently and I wanted to share a bit of my experience with y'all.

One of the many attractions that got me to try this game in the first place are all those fancy PvP stories. Sure... most of them are about battles between thousands of players from (sometimes) several years ago, but even the risk of being engaged anywhere you are in the galaxy and the fear/situational awareness that is promoted because of that is super awesome and different from most games out there.

So I decided to take my 10-day-old character, which I really only played for 7 days total, out for some PvP. I was briefly told about the faction warfare concept and that I can take advantage of certain acceleration gates to limit the ship types I could face. I thought this was a good idea for a newbie like myself... after all, I am in a frigate and am not up to the task of facing a destroyer/cruiser by myself (which you will see I ended up doing anyways, luls).

I stream while I play so I took the content from the night and made it into a video that can be seen here.

It may be painful to watch for you PvP professionals out there but hopefully you can get some laughs/face palms out of it at least.

Fly safe, see y'all around! Blink

Nice video and congrats on getting into pvp so early.

That Tristan fit from your first fight is a really good choice for new pvp players (though the Tristan will be slightly nerfed soon, but still strong with that fit).

Another good channel you might find useful as a new player getting into pvp:

The Eve Is Easy channel run by Suitonia has a lot of good videos for new players and Suitonia is one of the best theory crafters in the game for solo/small gang pvp.

Hope to see you around some time.

A couple of tips:

1. When you are going to die, if you want to save your pod, pick a celestial in space and begin spamming warp before you die. Your pod will instantly warp out after your ship dies and you should almost never lose a pod in lowsec. Then you can drop a 'gf' in local as you warp off.

2. In the second fight, your drones stopped chasing the Condor at one point. Drones are fit with a MWD so they can quickly catch the target. Once they get in range, they switch the MWD off and begin to orbit. Fast targets can then move away from them so they have to chase again. Your drones won't continue to chase indefinitely. They'll only activate their MWD 3 times before they give up, so it's often good to watch what your drones are doing and when they stop chasing, press 'F' to get them to engage again.
