I used to make excel sheet of loot values from the kills minus value of my lost ships per month. It was generally sustainable in our small corp that we could run a HAC/T3 gang of up to five members. But although what we made could sustain our small operation from loot drops alone, we were making so much more isk with our trading characters in high sec that what we made or lost in low-sec didn't really matter.

I have not done much PvE for a few years now, as in mission running or explorations or mining, although every now and then I do run a few missions for a break. 99% of money comes from trading and nowadays we don't even bother to loot unless it's something we'd use (like T2 mods for pvp or ammos) or faction/deadspace stuff. I do get cases where the opponent convo me and offer me isk to let him go, and I used to accept those until a few years ago, but these days I just want to see the explosion so I reject any ransom offers and just blow the ship instead.

I don't feel ashamed of having high sec characters doing trade stuff, nor do I think it's silly for other 'pirates' to have missioning/mining/incursion alts or whatever. These days a lot of people have already been playing this game for like a decade and many people are already established in the game to the extent that they don't have to do something they do not enjoy to 'grind' isk.

All that is left is just pure hedonistic enjoyment of destruction on one hand and watering the money tree regularly to keep it growing on the other hand. Turning that money tree into forest and burning other people's young tree is the name of the game now.

In my experiance (around 2 years living in lowsec) all I ever found were frig warfare pilots and hotdropping megafleets that would drop 23 carriers on a shuttle. No piracy to speak of, just kitey bullshit asking for "one vee one's" against brawlers. Unless you are counting flying a double scrammed astero in attempts to catch plex farmers.

So instead of telling us "how p sad" we are, how about you fckin contribute? Eh? Big daddy warballs gonna show us how its done? In YOUR CNP day, you had to read the forums in the snow, uphill both ways! With no shoes! And using a trackball!

Edit: I guess Ill save you the trouble. I am not a merc, a ganker, or any other highsec classification. I dont fight on docking rings and I honestly only go into highsec when I am between opportunities. In the past year I flew with Black Legion, Disavowed, and Lazerhawks. (Great groups all around, especially BL). In fact I attempt to spearhead attempts at content creation for all (see thunderdome threads) and generally do my best to make everybodys forum-day just that much more entertaining.

Every now and again, some pretentious jackwagon (such as yourself) comes along all "hurr hurr old days better hurr hurr you guys r iz teh suk herr herr" complaining about how bad the forums are nowdays instead of contributing. Moreover, some of these jackwagons (like you) feel the need to take pokes at our escapades... and back it up with comments like "Hows the jita undock?"

Tundragon are still living in lowsec (Lonetrek). We make enough money from our victims to give our members a decent payout each month.

And on the flip side we can go on plenty of Project Mayhem fleets with papa Tau AD.
