Why is everything more expensive in Hek?

Could someone more knowledgeable on how markets work please enlighten me or drop some breadcrumbs as to why prices in Hek are usually higher than other trade hubs like Jita or Amarr?

Because bigger trade hubs are nearby. Rens is only what? five/six jumps, Dodixie maybe seven and Jita (via Rancer admittedly) isn't that much further.

The only things cheap in minor hubs are things that are produced locally.

In Hek, that's only Sisters LP items.

I guess I'll start checking out Dodixie then. I don't see a huge difference between hek and rens prices. But then again, I haven't looked too closely at rens prices.

I decided to look at some stats today and compare prices and populations.

So right now here's what the populations are looking like:

Jita 854
Amarr 266
Dodixie 148
Hek 84
Rens 73


I decided to look at a module that is pretty common: Damage Control II

Jita 419,000.00
Dodixie 426,998.94
Rens 443,845.83
Amarr 445,987.42
Hek 485,798.95

Jita has the best price and following relatively close is Dodixie. Rens and Amarr are pretty close in price, and Hek is far in last, with a high price (expected as much).


So let's look at Tritanium:

Amarr 5.68
Rens 5.89
Dodixie 5.98
Hek 5.98
Jita 6.20


Okay, that's interesting. Jita has the worst price for Tritanium right now (surprising). Amarr has the lead by a good margin, followed by Rens, and Dodixie and Hek are tied.

What does it all mean? Well, I'm not sure. I don't know why the prices are the way they are right now, but I do know that Hek is an expensive place to live. I'm not sure why that is. I want to know though.

Why don't you set up business importing stuff there?

There's ISK to be made doing that. If I could stomach working on Boundless Creation Factory standings, I'd be doing it.

I've already put in the grind for boundless creations. Thanks for the suggestion, I might get into that. I'm planning on getting into producing my own ammo, because usually I just put buy orders up for my own ammo, but my orders have been sitting unfulfilled for .... idk a week or so, if I recall correctly.

Hek is FW trade hub. Just as new gallente secondary trade hub Stacmon. No wonder they are more expensive. Since galente militia vets let Villore and Ourapheh be camped 24/7 by caldari easy kill hunters, occasional galente FW pilots stoped using Dodixie and use Stacmon or Orvole. But lately Amarr militia started to kemp Hek quite well, so I wonder if that will move Hek somewhere.

Stacmon is also the hub of EVE Uni's lowsec campus. For a while I was importing assault frigates to sell there (EU LSC love their AFs). It was profitable but I've outgrown that market now.

Hek vs Rens is also weird in that Hek is a much better location in terms of distance from all things along with Eystur (sys next door in same region Rens is).
Rens offers nothing that other locations would not be better for, it is neither close to pvp or pve areas, it is not particulary good for 0.0 jumpfreighter supplies either. Rens trade station is not even the manufacturing station in the system and it is further than the others for jita imports.
Eystur seems to be gaining some popularity, at least I have been buying a lot more there lately.

A reason for Hek being expensive is the majority of products have abnormally active traders for the volume moved, it often feels like Jita on several products, combine that with low supply and nearby mission hubs, prices will generally stay high, until you/someone else decide to try and get some of those profits, then prices crash hard.
Hek buisness is down lately due to russians having moved in by Resbroko and is gatecamping/blobbing/smartbombing the FW guys (and anyone else that looks like easy target), so they usually go elsewhere now.

Hi. Sorry to bother you. I tried finding out for myself, but I haven't been able to find specifics. Why do people value Boundless Creation Factory standings? You mentioned it in the context of a hauling business venture (I think), buying cheap here and selling cheap there. Does rep with that particular corporation do something? I'm only curious because I bought a indy alt recently.

The rule of thumb I use for standings (and note: this is NOT exact) is that each 1.3 points of faction-to-player standing, AND each 3 points of corp-to-player standing, is worth a whole additional level of the Broker Relations skill.

My broker fees at Dodixie are 0.24%, and are similar at Sisters stations.
