PLEX pricing seems grossly unfair to UK and EU users.

America has a nasty habit of not adding the tax to things. You pay, then pay again then they look at you expecting a tip.

I was looking at getting more ETC and/or PLEX today and after checking the prices I was surprised to see that US users (well, anyone buying in USD) gain more than 1/3rd extra compared to their UK (GBP buying) counterparts - and 10% more than EU (EUR transacting) users.

Using the MasterCard exchange rates from a few mins ago, a pack of 6 PLEX costs:

USD: 104.00 - ($17.34/PLEX)
EUR: 105.50 - ($114.39 USD - 10% more expensive -- $19.07/PLEX)
GBP: 89.99 - ($138.95 USD - 34% more expensive - $23.16/PLEX)

Put another way, for every $104 spent, a US user gets 6 PLEX, an EU user gets 5 and a UK user gets 4.

Am I missing something here - or is this just blatant price gouging of non-US users? With regard to the game itself, does this not have a net effect of being huge subsidy from UK and EU users to US users in-game. US players get an additional 34% bonus game-time / training time or ISK (if people are selling PLEX) over every UK user and 10% over every EU one.

The above prices are from what a 6-pack of PLEX costs on Amazon US, France and UK respectively. I'm fairly sure are the same as the CCP website or as close to it as to not matter. Taxes do not seem to explain the difference as the discrepancy is simply way too much to account for it. Obviously there is no shipping costs involved either. The same gulf in value applies for purchases or any number of PLEX (1, 2, 6, 10 etc. etc.)

If I buy off the US Amazon site today, even including the commission from my bank for the transaction being in USD, its still 30% cheaper to buy PLEX in the US than in the UK.

NOTE: I'm not sure what prices are for Russian users or Japanese etc. but I'm not sure it matters much, what i've said above still applies.

This is existed for the entire history of gaming, you are only noticing it now? CCP is doing nothing the rest of the industry hasn't done since the 1980s. I remember when the 32 bit consoles launched and they were effctively double the price in the UK as the US, same with most of the games for them. Today in games like WoT you pay a fraction of the sub cost on the RU server as EU. At least in eve thanks to the single server you can get round it by buying from foreign sites.

How is management responsible for all the add-on expenses your country and credit card company choose to burden you with? Do you really expect merchants worldwide to adjust their pricing and scale it to your particular needs? Most business people price things fairly in order to be competitive. I imagine CCP does the same.

TL;DR All the raises in cost to you using the method you choose to pay have nothing to do with CCP's pricing policy.

There just isn't anything that can be said!

You can exchange the money using for example PayPal. And use PayPal to pay for PLEX.

The first two are problems with your wretched and corrupt government - the third is a fact of temporal geography. Get your government to change the first two, and take heart in the fact that DT occurs in my lunchtime, effectively ripping up my OCD play schedule.

a song in Itunes costs around CHF 1.60 in Switzerland which is approx. the same in USD. So it is quite common and relatively small here; the difference I mean.

I did search the forums for things like "Plex price" etc., nothing came up in search results.

It's been answered in other threads. The US prices don't include sales tax because each US state can have a different local sales tax, so you are comparing different things, E.g. UK price inc. VAT and US price before local sales tax is added.

As stated, ccp has no control over taxes and currency. You have the basic sum of all human knowladge at your damn finger tips, look around google for ways to dodge the tax and pay the us ammount (which even with exchange rates would be cheaper in theory with less taxes)

Google, is your friend. Use it
