A good decision by CCP, everybody wants the ability to choose and if it doesn't hurt the game somehow then it's a real no-brainer. It was long overdue but it'll be good to have back the jukebox (or at least in-games access to the songs in it).

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

Time to remember, the function is just an opt out of ambient music... not a real jukebox. The only way to shuffle tracks is to set volume to zero and reset it.

But the difference, oh, the difference... for those of us who stay in the same systems for weeks or months, this feature is the comeback of EVE music.

Also, WH will get rid of the spooky "sshhh" and "ffzzz" and "aahhhh", in case anyone still listened to them.

So how long until we get the customizable jukebox that we had prior to the whole thing being gutted?

Another 4 years?

Not to say this isn't a step in the right direction though.

If the Jukebox is returning and CCP reads this, could we have nice features like URL streaming for interweb radio stations? Maybe, allow us to build a playlist from the game, or mix up our own tunes from the local directory off the computer?

Alt-tab is ok for itunes or soundcloud, whatever, but I'll be happy with just having it back how it was. meh...

Edit:

Don't count on that, it would be the same as acknowledging that they were wrong to remove it.

Jukebox is not back. But looks like people here and on reddit just jump on the happy train of unsatisfied overhype without even trying this feature.
Honestly I don't understand why roll-out this feature without proper UI elements (prev, next, pause at least)

It looks like its just for eve music, but at least its a good start. I wish it could be improved in the future so I could play music from my pc.

I know many people think this is stupid because we have other tools and websites to play sounds but I really don't like to alt tab or use second monitor to change my music or make it louder ect.

Then use Winamp with Global Hotkeys enabled. :)

But I want EVE jukebox back too.

CCP Darwin was salty about the idea of wasting dev time "keeping what is essentially winamp updated for the game client". How much he actually has to do with any of it, I don't know.

In other words, CCP sound design has no heart. They would probably be better off hiring someone who was actually passionate about his job and didn't just shrug off the concept of sound design in favor of sound cloud. I don't know why anyone with that kind of thinking would even be involved with sound design in the first place.

Noticed that CCP Arrow has left the company.. or atleast the Director of UX has left.

https://www.linkedin.com/in/orvarh

Maybe CCP has a new Director of UX that likes to give us nice things... like 'Eve has sound' and not bad things like 'icon/bracket modernization' or 'removal of RGB sliders'.

Thank goodness. The "music" in null is an abomination. Glad to see the jukebox making a triumphant return, though I do hope they'll add some of the newer music, such as the backing track for the "This is Eve" trailer.

Its not the jukebox. its just going to cycle through eve music and not be the dynamic music we have now. The juke box is dead and shall stay dead.

Same reason features always get removed.

Somebody got an ego and ran with it. Then everyone got lazy and decided it was easier to close ranks and defend the butthurt rather than fix the problem.

Nothing new, really. Happens at my work all the time. Happens over at Blizzard too -- you should have seen the defense going on after Diablo 3 came out.
