Yeah sure... they are. But player count hasn't dwindled much. People just have less need for alts.
One of those "vanishing subs" was my alt account. I didn't need a booster/logi alt anymore, because I left the lowsec pirate life. One small example. Next patch, super "sitters" aren't going to be needed, either. Get ready to watch more subs go away, but the players will still be here.

You're fooling yourself if you think each and every sub has a different player attached. Many players have multiple accounts.

That's accurate. I started in 2010 and PLEX was around 350 million. Not in a million years would I have thought it would end up at 1.2 billion.

I would be extremely surprised if it's not 2b next year. It's quite easy to push the price up in a localized area with relatively little isk.

I wonder how many hundreds of thousands (maybe millions?) of plex are sitting stacked in storage.

Plex has always been like treasury bonds with assured gains and no real risk so I would be surprised if there isn't a lot being hoarded.
