F*cking yadda yadda yadda, I'm a good pilot, I like to have my sh*t and ship under control, I usally fly at the edge of my missile range.

In short, I need this.

When the rest of you slobs learn how to fly, we can discuss the matter again.

I went ahead and checked with some guns short and ranged

short range under 10km display in meter in the tooltip
long range over 10km shows only km in the tooltip
(optimal and falloff)

in show info on the turret, however I have 2 decimal for 10+ Km : 55.25Km

So I agree this value should show in the show info

you are a good pilot and you need a 1Km precision at 15k+ mhh using "keep at range" and "orbit", good pilot. Nah I'm just kidding you should be using manual flight as all good pilot

Also good pilot should at least read the show info once and remember for 2 or 4 ammo type because reading the tooltip while constantly adjusting speed, while manually positionning and on the fly computer radial velocity versus relarive velocity, signature radius and mass of the target is a bit challenging.

not having the information in the tooltip helps you get better quick judgment call in a fight for your life

also on a side note, i realize we are not talkin about DPS obviously, as 10 or 18 or 18.74557 km do exactly the same DPS to a target. so we are talking survivablilty here, so again, knowing your data in adavance is good

so in order to that for now : calc and notepad in game, crunch your data

Ah the usual I am better than all of you so when you reach my level we can discuss this attitude so typical.

On top of that I see you choose to completely ignore a vaild question, or perhaps you simply missed it, either way here it is again.

Donnachadh wrote:
But let's just for discussion say you had that last digit and set up a theoretical situation and give you that 1 digit on your range.

Your missiles range is 19,000.3 kilometers.

We are in a perfect world so you and your target are stationary(0 velocity) so the range does not change mid flight and the missile does not have to fly any extra distance to catch your moving target.

Your overview lists range to target as 19,000 kilometers.

Now the important question will your missiles hit your target or fall short?

So the ball is in your court as the saying goes. You can answer the question and pursue the debate as an adult, you can ignore questions asked and post insults, or you can simply go hide in a corner mad because we dare to disagree with you what is it going to be?

If you were that good, you'd know the value before you undocked.

So.....yeah...I think Dunning-Kruger is in full swing here.

If you are chasing someone your missiles are effectively slower for their speed reducing effective range, also from my experience there is some variance to the max flight time.

EvE-Mail me if you need anything.

Every number should show at minimum three significant figures. Two is not enough, and one is terribly bad. I think we always get at least two but as I said before, two is not enough.

since the other replies don't seem to get through to you maybe this song will: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrjwaqZfjIY

flight speed x flight time = NEVER GOING TO HIT!

god.. seriously, it's twice today, that I've needed the f*cking decimal, again, for my godda*ned launchers..

I really> couldn't give a puny's türd about your damned math, the 1 KM matters, a damned bloody lot: 9 KM or 9.999 KM..? If you can't see the issue with 10% X factor on your ranges, then you ARE poor pilots.

Simple as bloody that.

Seriously, if you're "that good", why do you not know this before you undock?

The problem may be that is is not shown. BUT the guy being the crappy pilot is the guy who doesn't know his missiles range! If you don't know your ship, you're the bad pilot. Now stop insulting others, and learn how to fly your stupid ship. Load the ships once in Pyfa/EFT, and remember one damn range! How bloody hard is that?

To all the critics here, 1 KM DOES matter:

On the Raven, you'll have your ranges on the torps, around 15-30 KM, depending on skills and riggs. That is, interestingly, the very same range, that a lot of NPC's orbit you - knowing when to leave, for instance, your Sentry drones in bay, or if safe to take them out, makes the knowledge of the X factor 1 KM interesting to know.

Snip

Except that while it does... it doesn't...

The range quoted in game is already longer than the actual missile range (as I recall from manual calcs) anyway, giving the illusion of accuracy would actually be counter-productive.

Because while your missiles are in flight your target is generally moving, meaning your missiles describe an arc rather than a straight line.
Because your overview is rounded to the kilometer anyway (at greater than or equal to 10km).
Because your missiles have mass and take time to accelerate from your launcher to their quoted missile velocity (making your velocity x flight time calculation inaccurate even on the arc).
Because even if you've accounted for all of that there are still unknowns in the calculation (from the average player perspective (server ticks are an example, acceleration (positive or negative) of the target is another).

Because increasing the significant figures display implies an increase in the accuracy of the calculation... an accuracy which is almost entirely meaningless unless it is calculated and displayed in real time and with respect to individual targets.
Better to imply that the quoted value is a little rough initially (by rounding) and encourage players to include "fiddle factors" (tolerances) based on their own experience and situations.

Still ignoring the questions asked I see, and still hurling insults as usual.

However it occurs to me that maybe we have been a little to harsh with you given that you are such a special person and have such incredible piloting skills that the rest of us mere humans beings can scarcely begin to imagine how good you truly are. So in light of our inability to comprehend just how critical this decimal point range thing is, and given that you will have to wait for CCP to see the light and give you what you need I do have a solution for you. It is very elegant in it's basic simplicity and perhaps that is why you have not seen it from your lofty position high atop the list of the ultimate EvE pilots. So without further ado let me introduce you to the answer to your problem, they are made by the 3M company and called Post-It-Notes. In their wisdom 3M has even foreseen and accounted for your needs by producing them in multiple colors so the proper range information can be quickly and easily identified for each ship you might fly.

http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=post+its+super+sticky&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=76729568768&hvpos=1t2&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12387618438171779605&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_1mdw7chsy2_b_p4

3M has made them easily removable so when that day comes and CCP finally gives you what you deserve you will be able to remove them from your monitor with no sticky residue left behind. Yes, yes I know considering your position at the very pinnacle of EvE pilots this is likely to seem crass, vulgar and all that but you may have to lower yourself to this level to solve your problem at least for now.
