I've not played this game in years, but a friend talked me into subscribing again. He isn't the same faction as I am so I guess I need to delete a character in order to create one on the same faction as him.

Problem... a TEN hour wait.... W.. T.. F!?

Do I need to be on the same faction? <- ??
Can I purchase another character slot? <- nope!
Can I transfer to another faction? <- Takes 10 hours #facepalm
Why is there a 10 hour wait on an account that hasn't been used in over four years? <-??

Why do you want to be the same faction? This isn't WoW, you can be any faction.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

So, without the typical EVE attitude, you're saying with a ticket I might get it in less time?

It was one of the questions I asked, thanks for asking it.

I never compared anything to WoW. Again, typical EVE attitude at work. This community hasn't changed at all has it :P

your post makes no sense.

you don;t need to make a new char, you don;t need to do anything. you can do whatever the hades you want as you are. Your faction, race, class, means nothing. What EXACTLY are you trying to do?

Well tbh, the only one in this thread that seems to be contributing to the idea that the community hasn't changed, is you.

Everyone else has been reasonable and your OP is not very clear at all.

Have you transferred a character from one account to another? Is that why you are upset about waiting?

If so, the wiki indicates why:

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Character_Transfer

The 10 hours is for security reasons. I guess the process needs to be certain that you aren't a banned player, that the transfer is legitimately initiated (ie. needs to be some time for the owner to petition it if an account is hacked, etc.).

It's just a process. Nothing really to be upset about.

If it's some other 10 hours, then I can't really help as it isn't clear in the OP.

As to these:

Do I need to be on the same faction? <- ??
No, there's no need to be the same race, faction, etc. Your choice what you do in the game irrespective of what your character is.

Can I purchase another character slot? <- nope!
There are 3 slots on each account. You can create a different character for each of those slots and pay just the one subscription fee, though normally only 1 character can be trained at a time (you can purchase multiple training if you only need to train one for a short period).

Can I transfer to another faction? <- Takes 10 hours #facepalm
This bit I really have no clue what you are asking. Why does it take 10 hours to transfer to a new faction?

Why is there a 10 hour wait on an account that hasn't been used in over four years? <-??
What for? You can reactivate an account and use it immediately.

My questions probably didn't make a lot of sense, because I'm not at all familiar with this game. Had that thought crossed any of your minds?

When I first tried this game, no one else was playing it and all the other people I played games with wanted to do things other than EVE. So, my experience here didn't last very long. Now that I have a cousin who actually likes this game and has an account with a few years played, I feel I might be able to play for a while.

None of my characters were very skilled. The main thing I wanted was a NEW character so that I could start fresh, as if I had never played. Had I known this 10 hour thing existed, I would have just made a new account completely.

I just wanted to start fresh and I didn't want to have to wait 10 hours to do it.

That said, I got what I needed. Thanks to those of you who actually helped without being condescending.

Your character race, gender, and faction are set in stone and mean this:
1: What skills you start with. Amarr start with laser and Amarr frigate skills. You can train other-faction skills and join other-faction corporations if you want.
2: Limits on your appearance. That character will always be male Vherokior, with access to generic and Minmatar clothing, piercings, and tattoos, and the ability to buy new clothes off the New Eden Store or for ISK at your local trade hub.
3: What starter corp you can choose.

Besides those three, you have nothing but choices.

By faction you mean gallente or Amarr or such? It does not have meaning other than how your Avatar looks and what Roleplaying you are about to do, but there is no gameplay mechanic build around of it. For example, you start with some skills native to your Minmatar faction ships,, but its nothing really important as you can train any skill. You can start as Amarr citizen and join Minmatar Militia, or have a positive standing with all Minmatar corporations. There are no limitations that force you in some role because of starting faction. Just journey to your friend and join his fleet.

You tried to delete a character.

Deleting a character is a serious matter. There is no coming back from it.

You have a 10 hour "cooling-down" period to reconsider. You can then either retrieve the character, or delete it.

This is a safety measure to protect you from yourself.

you don't need to delete any of your existing characters to play. starting race/gender/faction is irrelevant, the only difference is the starting system. as a newbie, you can go to the other "starter" systems and access aura from there also.

even in faction warfare, you can join any of the four playable faction as long as you have postive standings with them. if you don't, you can grind them or "buy" your standings with tags (expensive as fck).

but if you are an RPier, then by all means
