This poem is a submission for Lunarisse Aspenstar's New Eden Capsuleer's Writing Contest - YC 117. This poem is written In Character, but told Out of Character.

I won't spoil it for you too much, but this poem has to do with the Second Parable in my "Two Parables" work of fiction.

"Knife"

Drag me downstairs
I'm like a snail
and my slime,
Sarum red, like rust that drips
     drip, drip

I'm not factory sealed
or vaccuum packed
I'm like stones
wrapped in newspaper

I'll fall out in organs and clues
     and chalk-white countours
Wrap me in dirt
Feed me to the worms

Nothing can bruise me
     anymore

But her,
Nervous and sombre, astray
Sees only night
     when it's day

Swerves when she drives,
Chokes when she cries;
I've left for good
     leaving her only

the day when she
changed forever.
