I just moved into Caldari space since my friend is a Caldari player and I want to play with him. So I decided I'd grind my rep with caldari by doing their L1 missions in my dominix.

During the mission I tell my drones to engage the frigates but after firing 1 volley all the drones disengage. They also seem to become completely disinterested in combat despite the fact that they are set on aggressive. I've tried restarting my game and re-entering the mission but the same problem persists. Am I doing something wrong?

TLDR: Drones refuse to engage a target beyond the first volley, they also refuse to be aggressive.

Try emptying the drone bay and repackaging the drones. Set the drones to active and focus fire after you launch them (even if it looks like they are already set, do it again).

I find drones sometimes refuse to stay on target, but I've never had them stop shooting altogether.

Its a known issue. It started a couple of patches ago. You have to refocus the drones after they disengage. Its been posted in issues for weeks but there has been no response from CCP. i.e. They are ignoring it.

Drones are indeed borked. As for your weapons, empty your cache.

I suggest you beat them with a blunt object, such as a hammer or alloyed tritanium bar, until they work properly. That's what I do, anyway.
