hi
I pre-heated my hardeners, without activating them, and they caused heat damage.
the modules were not active, but were filling the heat bar

pretty sure this isn't supposed to be happening

you overheated a module it radiate heats. as long as it is not offline, it will take damage. active has more chance. inactive can still ... take the heat (sorry) (inactive are not passive. inactive is active turned off)

http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Overheating_101 and looong read in damage suppositions (see slideshow 11 and what happens to the nos)

to summarize :
inactive overheated are taking damage
non overheated can still take damage in proximity of another module overheating

that's also there you learn that module position is important

oh and I don't know pre-heating, I hope you know what overheating is :D

what I mean by pre-heat is you set the mod to overheat, ready to activate the item on target lock
or waiting for the target to get within heated range, but the mod isn't active, they still take heat damage

in the pic linked on the eve uni page, http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/w/images/8/89/Overheating_Overview_2.png
it shows no heat bulid up.
if I try that at present, I would have max heat in 20 or 30 seconds.

on the screen the shield has damge yet it is inactive, did they change how much damage was done... hmmm

I usually hit Shitft+F1 F1 to do the overload "preheat" as you call it

here I'm in a domi mimi dualrep active tanks afk, so half of my module is overloadable

I used oveload all the rack, it has been 5 minute, no damge (absolutely 0)
I hit the MWD, zooming at 1300ms in a domi lol, I started getting dmg on MWD and 2 passive on med

nothing else has moved... so your issue is strange

I'm trying individual overload just to test, but so far nothing

I'm guessing, skill issue or bugged module.
- what's your thermodynamic skill at?
- try another ship/fit

and of course, ticket
