is this flu or common cold?

I have this sickness again that I get a lot and I can never tell which it is.

Symptoms:
sore throat
intestines bubbling and rumbling, making noise
lack of appetite, only want to eat something soupy and salty
don't like water, but feel better if I drink it anyway
chilly all over even though I'm not cold
I have this weird soreness that feels like my skin is so sensitive it hurts slightly from just the air and if I touch it it'll hurt a lot more, but if I actually touch it it just hurts exactly the same tiny amount as before--it's a phantom soreness I guess

What do I have? I'm a nerd and I want to sound like I know what I'm talking about when I tell people what I have. Help me out here, fellow nerds!
(I've tried researching the symptoms, but I get a lot of overlap, and a lot of evidence that people talking about it really don't know the difference)

The symptoms are pretty much the same. influenca just hits you harder, knocks you out for a few days including high fever.

cook a chili chicken soup, drink hot tea, keep yourself warm, shower and change regularily and get in bed (no tv, no eve) and you will be ok in a few days.

Edit: get an influenca vaccination next year...

Last time anything knocked me out for a few days I was three years old. I do probably have a fever though, it would explain why I have to get so warm to not feel chilly.

Its flu to me. I think Cold would start with snoozing and running nose and you could not breath thru it for a few days.

Definitely flu. Fever is only presented in a cold in a very tiny minority of cold cases. That, plus the skin/joint sensitivity, makes flu the winner - a cold is usually just an upper (but can progress to a lower) respiratory condition.

I guess the gastric distress might be a little unusual but probably not completely unheard of...

Definitely got a fever combined with joint paint/soreness go to a medical professional of your choice.
Everything else is just a guess flu has almost the same symptoms as most viral diseases but generally lots of fluids, vitamin C and sunshine with rest helps in most cases.

Also a bad hangover with lots of yelling the night before might present with the same symptoms Blink

Yeah I think you're right. I may have been mistaking the common cold for hay fever, which would explain why it's only aggravated by pollen and not actually caused by it. Perhaps all the times I have ever felt general malaise has been from the flu, and they're hard to tell apart because it was the same sickness every time.

Not to be a smartarse but go to the docs and see if it is flu.

Worst thing you can do is spread flu around the office thinking its a cold. No one will like you and you shall be denied sweeties and / or cakes.

I speak from experiemce on this. My invul keeps the space flu in, not out.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just "go see a doc".

Bugger forgot where you lived Reaver.

In that case wrap up warm. My personal flu remedy is beef stew with a dash of chili powder. Gets the nose juices flowing!
